I have the chance of a new Plasma TV for Xmas and wanted to know what the best one is on the market.

Looking for a 42" and seen the Samsung Bordeaux PS42Q97HDX 42" on overclockers.

Want to be able to plug pc into as well.

Dont want anything bigger, but would like to know if there is anything better quality for the money. Make not important as long as it does not look pants..

Suggestions welcome

~£800 budget - Panasonic px70 (1024x768 panel)
~£1000 budget - panasonic pz70 (1920x1080 panel)

The pioneer kuros would also be worth a look, as they are arguably the best for films and tv, but are 1024x768 panels and are pretty pricey at the £1500 mark.

Agreed with that.

If you want any decent picture quality then don't go cheap on your plasma.

Blue-ray players are around £250-£300 which will leave you with around £550 ish.

That isn't enough to get a plasma where you will see the benefits of having the blue-ray player.

Go for the Panasonic PX70 or if you can stretch another £200 ish get the PZ70.

:D

**edit** isn't the PX70 720P (1366x768)?

Pioneer seem to be the way to go. I have been looking at the 1080 branded stuff and seen some nice LG & Samsung units. The reed ups look good but I have no experiance in the screens.

The Bluray can come at a later date, would rarther have a quality plasma max is £800 though

Pioneer > all. 720p makes no difference on the 42" and lower sets, they still look amazing.

Pioneer are nice, but she was looking at spending £800, thats a big leap from buying a Panasonic (720P) PX70 or stretching a bit further for a 1080P PZ70 now isnt it. :p

Pioneer 428xd / 4280xd - You cannot buy a better TV!

And like anything, I'm sure you can get better if you are prepared to pay enough. ;)

he's got a point. Yes the pioneers are the best plasmas around, but you pay for it

bit like Sony, the X3500 is the best LCD around at the moment, but by heck you pay for it.

True, but if buying a plasma I simply wouldn't settle for anything less... it's worth the investment!

Thanks for the heads up guys, I was thinking the 1080 stuff was all the same and you got the same quality.

Will be using for pc input so wont have to go up stairs all the time and also watching films on dvd and of pc downloads.

I have been told the technology only has a limited life of approx 2-3 years?

Modern Plasmas have a 'half life' of 60,000 hours, that is after this time the screen will be half as bright as it was new. So thats nearly 7 years if left on 24/7 or 27 years if used 6 hours a day. So I wouldnt worry about it

And when you get there, turn the brightness up. You'll more than likely be most comfortable with it under half from the off anyway.
