best free anti malware for vista 64

+common sense

spywareblaster, and spybot s&d immunize will block a lot, turn off things like real-time scanning in defender, just slows your pc down

Booo.

I say try it with it on and see what happens. If you notice a hit then turn it off.

scans every file, of course it's going to slow it down

you've gotta have some pretty retarded browsing habits to make any alarms go off anyway

I can't say I notice any slow down. Which is why I advise the OP to test it with and without :p

Either Kaspersky, NOD32 or Avira AntiVir for AV.

A-Squared free, SUPERAntiSpyware and Windows defender for antispyware.

it's impossible for it not to slow it down

copy a few hundred files from a to b, try with defender off, then on, you'll notice the difference

Does anybody have any ideas or experience? Thank you :)

Grisoft still offer the free versions of their anti-virus and anti-spyware software on their website. I have this working fine on Vista 64 - no problems whatsoever with install or operation. This doesn't give you a full function firewall though, so make sure you manually configure the Windows firewall in Vista to disable all but the essential inbound traffic, and turn off any unnecessary protocols on your network card too. (and/or get a third party firewall product)

I tried McAfee and ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite but neither currently support Vista 64.
