** The Official ATI 3870/3850 512/256mb Review/Overclocking Thread **

Interesting on the pixel pipelines as I was under the impression it was 16 as well. Maybe it's a bug with everest?

Has anyone tried the new bios from finland with there 3870 (apparently the upper limit was 862mhz and the card would lock to that or crash). With this bios it should allow you to push your card to 900 or beyond (obviously taking heat into account).

Still no bios editor yet, but at least there is a modified bios out there for ati peeps, as it has been nvidia all the way with bios mods so far :(

Can someone tell me how the hell I overclock an ATI?

RivaTuner doesn't work (clocks get defaulted when applied) and ATI Tool BSODs my PC! :(

How long is the HD 3870xt? I'm looking into upgrading from a 1950 pro and want to make sure that its going to fit in my case :)

Its exactly the same lengh as 1950pro. I had the same worry as with the power cable plugged in (thick tagan pcie cable) it bumps into the hd cradle which sits side ways in my case. thanfully being the same size the upgrade went without a hitch. would have prefured the power socket to be on the side like 2900, would have been much easier to fit ;)

Ack help! Have a 3870 installed and was playing fine.

Decided to use the auto-overclocking thing in the CCC, and watched nervously as my GPU core was slowly pushed up and up....to a point where the screen went bank and comp locked up (think the core was only at about 860mhz ish on a HIS 3870). Now the CCC said that at reboot it would restore to previous 'ok' settings....but it doesn't seem to be doing this.

Every time I reboot, I can get into windows fine, and whilst my startbar programs are loading she goes blank again. So I am guessing this is where the CCC loads and applies this Overclock?

How can stop this and revert back? Do I need to enter safe-mode and uninstall CCC then reinstall from fresh?

/EDIT: Trying the uninstall via safemode and reinstall of the ATI software....fingers crossed!

Any help would be appreciated as my main comp is currently useless right now.

I could always wack in the old 7800GTX back in and do it that way, but would prefer not to if there is a cleaner way of doing this.

Any help would be appreciated!

Had the same problem... it seems to remember and apply the overclock on boot... as soon as you go to the CCC and the 3d section it tries to display 3d settings and therefore sets the card in 3d mode and it then crashes.

Get into CCC and go straight to the overclocking section and set it back to normal then apply before going anywhere else.

Yes Safe mode and pull off drivers or CCC will fix that, I once used the auto thing on a X1800Xt and it frightened me to death !! If you want to overclock Just use small steps and test, less chance to cook the card...and just because the utility is ATI's, there are strong warnings and for me that's no guarentee You will not damage anything

I do apologise if I have missed this, but can someone tell me the length of the 3850 and 3870 cards. Would be helpful to know the length of a 8800gt as well actually.
Cheers

If it is the same size as the X1900's which it appears to be, it will reach to the end of an average ATX mobo.

Hey guys, I read the reviews and these cards look very nice!

I am tempted to grab the one that is close to £100, looks like the new X1950 Pro :)

Not sure about the big one though, good price but thats spitting distance of a 8800GT.
