Another picture from my trip away last week...

Loch Voil

"Wow" is a greatly over-used word, but sometimes it's appropriate. Down here just inside the M25 that kind of tranquility is in rare supply!

You're posting some great shots.

Very nice picture btw. :)

Great photo. Only little niggle is, to me anyway, the base of the trees on the right seem to be out of focus or slightly pixalated. Maybe the compression. Nonetheless fantastic image.

Wish I lived in these sort of places.

You should think about getting that printed! Stunning image.

Thanks, I will probably get a small print done for my portfolio. After that, who knows.:)

Thanks Andrew, you would just have to move to gods country for tanquility.;)

I've never seen water so still!

Brilliant!

I did have to wait for 5-10 minutes till the wind stopped slightly rippling the water.

Nikon D80, see Messiah Khans posting of my exif;)

Thanks. I think it's more to do with the compression more than anything. I also wished I lived in these sort of places as well, until the thought of being cut off in the winter, and the distance from any sort of large-ish town puts pay to that idea.

It's a very calm scene, the reflections lead the eye in very nicely - I like this image

There seems to be a jet trail above the greenest tree in the group to the right which is a very slight distraction

I am not sure how to interpret the contrast between the uninspiring shaded left side of the loch and the nicely illuminated right hand side but it certainly adds something to the scene.

I think if I was going to print this at any decent size, I would take out the contrail.

The contrast was a bit of a problem. The sun was just clearing the hills to the left and shining on the right hand bank. This meant the left hand side was in deep shadow. I ended up using a 3 stop nd grad tilted and positioned over the right hand side to try and bring the left back into the cameras dynamic range.

It is not perfect as it is slightly dark and contrastless there. Thinking about it now, I should have took an exposure for this left hand side and blended it back into the final shot, to give slighty more detail.

Of course, it can be looked on as if the left would be expected to be in shadow anyway because of the sun hitting the right bank.

I'll be the first to admit that I don't get it right all the time.:)
