25 and Over vs under 25's?

Just checking - I have purchased TF2 from steam and was about to begin the download at work (huge bandwidth), but Im thinking that it downloads and installs at the same time? I was hoping for an ISO that I could then burn and install on my gaming rig?
Can anyone confirm how Steam works - do I have to download it on the machine I intend to play it on?

Just copy the GCFs from your Steam Apps folder across, or Backup the games using the Steam client then restore on your PC at home - all provided your IT guys won't go nuts about you installing a 3rd party gaming application on your work pc of course :)

I think you might be able to back it up once you have downloaded/installed at work, writing the backups to DVD of course, then you should be able to restore it at home.

I am not absolutely sure about the mechanics of their backup, so you might need to do a little reasearch on that.

One thing I do know is that it should create an .exe file which you run to do the restore. Sometimes it does not create this .exe file, so be sure to check, and you might have to run it again.

Though I should still have the .exe somewhere, so if needs be I could put it somewhere for you to download. I had to do this, cause mine was created without the .exe file.

Randal should we wait a little longer to see if anyone else puts money in, or just go ahead and do it ourselves?

Still not heard back from them regarding UT3 question. Kind of worrying that they ignore emails to their sales email address :(

So how much are we looking at for a server and how many slots is that for? Whats the company are the servers going to be from? How much has been contributed so far? We really need to plan this right and get a good full schedule for the server otherwise it will be half empty.

Also, whats TF2 like I've never played?

a very fun and amusing game. I got it last Friday, havent had chance to have a proper full on session on it but i've probably played about 3 -4 hours since then. Its just great!:D

OK, got tired of waiting and called them. Funnily enough, they'd just emailed me when they answered.

UT3 is installed on the server and ready to go, however the interface between UT3 and their Admin web control panel isn't ready just yet so we're waiting on that.

Warren - we're looking at between £30-40 for a server depending on who donates what. We've got £20 in the pot, it looks like ffallic and myself will make up the remainder today and any further donations to the cause will stay in the pot for next month's rental.

Agreed on the schedule, I think we're going to try and get a game setup for tonight if possible then we'll look at something more regular.

You've never played TF2...? You over or under 25? :D

randal24 - Is there any other method I can get money to you, rather than paypal??? I don't really fancy signing up to paypal just to pop a few quid over in your direction. :o

@DampCat - Thanks for the offer, people have donated £5 as this is just the first month and we're testing the water. Up to you though.

@s-p - I think you can send PP with just a debit/credit card if memory serves, if not mail in trust for bank details.

I wouldnt mind playing with you all :) my vote would be for UT3 as it is just damn fast and furious :D I have The ORange Box with TF2 on its way so i would be up for playing that aswell :D And would be more than willing to donate a fiver once i know the the price of the new 8800GTS
And iam 25

Ok, so the voting stands at:

COD4 - 1
UT3 - 12
TF2 - 13
Quake Wars - 3

So TF2 will be the first game. Just as well as UT3 is not quite set up yet at WarServers, but should be shortly. Hopefully in time for round 2.

Shall we say arrange time to be 20:30?

And say the best out of 5 rounds wins - thereafter its just a free-for-all? And should we do CTF?

Edit: Oh and Randal, you will be going with private server right?

Sounds good to me, I'll order it up in a tick.

Ok, I have sent another £5 to the account.

I have updated the OP to include some round 1 info, which will need to be updated once we have the server set up.

Ill contribute £5 for a TF2 server, havent got UT3 so might just be the month! Have you thought about reserved slots / admin responsibilities? Ill send the cash tonight when back from work.

Well, I am not sure about the specifics on how the server is set up and configured, but the idea is that those who pay get top priority, as well as admin access.

Though we will need to be careful with the admin access. We don't want people just going in and changing things however they like, whenever they like.

Changes would need to be discussed first, unless for some reason something needed to be changed quickly.

Whoever gets admin access would have to be responsible with their login info and not share it.

Would it be better if say only 3 or 4 of us had admin access? Perhaps Randal 24 who is handling the set up and finances, me who handles the organising, and perhaps one or two others in case neither of us is around?
