Steam links - awful performace

Do the steam pages in general (links/community page/news) have really bad load times for everybody? Most of the stuff here just sits updating and takes forever to come up or doesn't come up at all.
 
the community works fine for me (if a little slow) but a lot of the time with the store i have to go to my games or something and then back for it to work, and even then it is pretty slow
 
A third of the time for me it times out, the rest of the time it works but quite slowly. Downloads for me range from <1kb/s to 500kb/s. I'd be happier if I knew it would stay with nice steady speeds, even if those were a bit lower than it being maxxed out.

I always get speeds of 1-1.5MB/s when downloading games, it's just the pages that are slow as hell
