Five arrested in football inquiry

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7116823.stm

Apparently 'appy 'arry is one of them.

Five men have been arrested in connection with alleged corruption in football, police have said.

City of London Police said the men - aged 69, 60, 55, 48 and 30 - were arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to defraud and false accounting.

Portsmouth football club said manager Harry Redknapp and chief executive Peter Storrie were among those held.

The arrests were part of the force's ongoing investigation into corruption within the game, a spokeswoman said.

Two searches are still under way and 10 others have been concluded at locations across the country.

Detectives from the economic crime unit of the City of London Police are investigating allegations of corruption within football and its impact on owners and shareholders.

In July, officers raided Newcastle United, Portsmouth and Rangers football clubs as part of the inquiry.

Seven arrests

Last year, the Premier League asked former Metropolitan Police Commissioner Lord Stevens and his company, Quest, to carry out a separate inquiry into several hundred player transfer deals.

In June, Lord Stevens presented his final report, which highlighted concerns over 17 transfers and five Premier League clubs.

City of London Police have distanced their investigation from Lord Stevens' inquiry.

The latest arrests bring the total number of people detained in connection with the investigation to seven.

In September, a 28-year-old man was arrested in London and in May, a 61-year-old man was arrested in Manchester on suspicion of money laundering.

Milan Mandaric, Amdy Faye and Willie McKay are supposed to be the other 3
That would be why Rangers were just mentioned about a player getting arrested:). I didn't fully hear or see what happened.

Amdy Faye has been arrested due to a breach of the trades description act.

He was sold to Rangers FC as a 'football player' but if you peel the sticker off it says, 'any resemblance to a football player either alive or dead is purely coincidental'

Nah it was way before Amdy Faye even went near Rangers. Wonder what a player can be corrupt in?

EDIT: I mean that because how can he throw games on his own from the bench ;)?
Talking about what i just heard brielfly on the news about a player being arrested, i wasn't listening properly.

Incorrect. The transfer of Faye from Portsmouth to Newcastle was one under investigation.

Rangers were mentioned because they were raided as part of the investigation into corruption in football.

Dont let the facts get in the way of the fiction though. Rangers were never investigated for corruption. The police wanted the records of the boumsong deal to check for the irregularities of what happened between the agent McKay and Newcastle. Rangers were never under suspicion.

Can't exactly call this a big surprise, Harry Redknapp has always appeared shadier than the dark side of the Moon. Doesn't stop him being a fairly decent manager overall though. :)

No one, other than Macca, has indicated that Rangers were ever under either suspicion, or investigation. :)
