in my trusty little F31fd, i've got a 2gb offical Fuji XD card type H. I have a card reader, and usb cable for the camera. I use one or the other, depending on where i am and what is plugged in. I had some trouble with the card corrupting videos, and photos if i used the card reader. With the card back in the camera, and using the USB cable they worked again. So i blamed the card reader. Today though, after copying a large video (600mb) off the camera via USB, it wouldn't work. I re-copied it, and it took an age and half crashed explorer. I dug out the card reader, and tried that and it copied over fine.

Sooo i'm starting to suspect the card. I've formatted it in the past. Is there any other maintance that can be done on them. Low level formatting, or specialist apps to format these cards?

XD cards seem a little bit more troublesome than other types...I sometimes have to copy things twice, and also the cards can sometimes not be recognised. A take out and re-insert always works though!

i'm just worried about it not saving something to the card properly, i use the compact mainly for video. and it'd be a bit miffed if the card corrupt and i lost what i'd shot!!

Check the Fuji site and your serial numbers to make sure your camera is fully compatible, you may need a firmware upgrade.

Also card readers generally dislike type-H XD cards. I had to buy a brand new one as my old reader wouldnt play ball.

okay, but i've seen about 7 or 8 fuji and olympus xD cards that were made by sandisk.
