Which 24" for gaming?

i wouldnt bother for the sake of changing. it has a better picture but there isnt a lot in it. the lag is a lot better yes, but the stand is awful. make no mistake this is a budget monitor and they had to sacrifice something. lucky for us it was the stand, as the panel is top notch:)
 
I have a samsung monitor at home and its fantastic, but at work we have Dells. Ill be brutaly honest, then dells are nicer. I bought the sammy because of my budget and its perfect for that, but for 400 notes you can get the dell and imo are a better investment.

I've started using an apple 23" at work and I have to say it's really nice, 1920x1200, S-ips panel, over the £450 budget I'm afraid though.
 
I got my FP241W yesterday and I'm really quite underwhelmed by it. Compared to an IPS panel it's pretty dire if I'm honest. Gradients seem to have a significant step to them and you can the viewing angles don't seem nearly as wide as I'd hoped.

The only thing I can think of is that it needs a lot of setting up, anybody know of any good apps to help with this?

Oooh got a model number? I'm after a 1920x1200 screen and never knew IPS was used on anything above 20" !
 
Interested in the L2442W, but one thing I am curious about and don't know whether it's a silly question or not....anyway....drum roll :rolleyes:

Why are monitor's still ony 8-bit ?

production costs and technology really. You'll see higher LUT's (like 10-bit etc) but the actual panels are still 8-bit limited for now....we've got wider colour gamuts at least :) plus, 16.7 million colours is quite a few ;)
 
get the OCUK value 24" DGM panel (L2442W) got it next to my dell 2407 non HD (best 2407 panel) and tis the same............gaming on them is awesome, £250 this week on spec offer, 1st hand experience of a 'good' and 'cheap' panel...........sfa difference in terms of gaming and image quality, BUY NOW DUDE! you wont be sorry.

I was purely puzzled by the fact some of the latest lcd tv's are 14-bit etc and have billion's of colour's and surprised monitor's we're still only 8-bit,but it is good to know we have the wider colour gamut. :D

So, my next question is Baddass, when do you think monitor's will have commonly 10-bit panels etc ?

I'm not sure if those LCD TV's have true 14-bit panels though, just a larger colour palette / 14-bit LUT etc available. If you can give me a model ref or something I'll take a better look, but I 'believe' the LCD panels are still 8-bit limited as well.

Ah.

Our current lcd tv has '10bit Signal processing', does this mean it's a 10-bit panel or as you say a larger colour palette, I just presumed it meant it was a 10-bit panel.

Philips have a lcd tv which has a 14-bit colour processor delivering 4 trillion colour's.

I'm finding my 1 year old nec multisync 20wgx2 a bit small now, and i'm really tempted by the L2442W purely because of the price and the acclaim that people have been giving it here.

But I would rather wait for a 10-bit panel/colour processing monitor if they are about to possibly come out, as we had previously an 8-bit lcd tv and since we've had this 10-bit lcd tv whatever it bloody mean's, we have found a huge difference in colour reproduction over the 8-bit.

ah yes, I'm pretty sure that that only relates to the Look Up Table (LUT) and palette available from a signal processing point of view. The panel itself remains 8-bit I'm pretty sure. In fact it looks very likely that the Sharp LC46XL2E uses Sharp's own LK460D3LZ19 panel, which is listed as 8-bit. The colour palette available is enhanced though, there's a bit of blurb from Eizo here which discusses their monitor range with 10, 12 and now 16-bit LUT. Ultimately the panels used are 8-bit though. Same thing with the Philips model.

I don't think it will any time soon we see different panels, but enhanced LUT are being used in some colour pro models already (Eizo, LaCie, NEC etc).
