Im looking for a home cinema amp to replace my current aging dvd player/amplifier all in one (Pioneer XV-DV303). I have a Samsung LE32R74BDX and a HTPC that outputs via HDMI (and optical if i choose). I also plan on purchasing a Pioneer DV600 to replace the dvd part of my all in one unit and take care of upscaling. I will be keeping the speakers from the AIO until i can afford to upgrade them. I also connect the optical out from my Xbox360 to the AIO. (It only has one optical in so i have to keep swapping if i want a different one plugged in).
I started out looking at HDMI amps like the Pioneer 917/1017, the Onkyo 605 or the Sony DG910 anything up to around £400, but it seems like a bit of a waste of time as they're not fully established yet (and i dont have the kit to properly exploit them anyway) and i was also put off by the fact that the amp had to be on all the time regardless. As i would prefer not to have to turn the amp on every time i want to watch a tv show or something. Unless someone knows of a HDMI amp that will just allow the HDMI to pass video and audio through to the tv on standby?
It would also need video up-conversion to HDMI and sound over HDMI.
If no such amp exists ill probably opt for a cheaper amp and a hdmi/optical switcher (octava) and just run additional optical alongside hdmi so that can choose whether to have the amp on or not. It seems like the best value/features is the Sony DG710, bit pricier than i want at this end of the market, but seems better specced than the pioneer 417. So for £150-180 (maybe £200) is there anything better than the Sony Dg710?
Thanks in advance for any input, much appreciated as A/V equipment isnt my forte!
