Bad designs on cars

Well i would say that anyone that before was considering a evo or impreza, that market. Now has there decision made for them..

why?
evos and scoobys have never been bought because they look nice, why would that change now?

The thing is think about the uproar when they "ruined" the Civic Type-R. I see more of the current shape type R's around than I ever did the previous model.

i see lots of civics with bodykits, but type-r's are quite rare imo.

I watched Top Gear too.

My immediate thoughts are that the indicator clicks on the new polo (and possibly golf) are too quiet and that it can be difficult to hear them (If this is somehow adjustable then I duly apologise). My dad always forgets bless him.

Also the dash is illuminated in blue, which the eye is least receptive to and can blur easily under low levels of light. This is a well known design fault.

Maybe not at first, but is definetly in the list when picking between them now.

- Vauxhall indicators, ruddy horrible.

Any of these stupid electronic indicators that try and do the drivers job need burning IMO. I almost snapped the indicator stalk off the last Ford I drove as I got so peed off with it.

One thing that really irks me is a lot of modern cars seem to be a triumph of form over function e.g. the new Astra, Focus, MINI etc. have the most pathetic amount of boot space. My old Mk2 Astra had a huge boot and yet was a smaller car than most of these.

I have a green light on my dash to tell me that my lights are on. Unlike the rest of the dials and stuff, it is not dimmable.

It is far too bright, and when you're crusing on a dark motorway, with all other interior lights dimmed down, its just a bright blind spot degrading your night vision.

I suppose I could mention about the lak of rain channels. It just means when you open the door and its been raining, you get a mini waterfall on the back of your head as you get out.

Lets have a roundup of all the things that we think are bad in current car design :)

I'll kick off with the rear light cluster on some new VW's. The indicator is in the middle of a combined brake/rear light ring. When the brakes are on I can barely see the indicator flashing when I'm approaching. I think that's a really bad design.

Noticed that on a Golf last Saturday, he already had his headlights on & then the brakes/indicators merged into one redy/orangey light

Oh yeah I remember this on my civic :p - reason why I NEVER let anyone get in the back through driver's door, not my seat, not my problem I say!

Interestingly, it does this on the old civic as well as the new one? Its one of the most complained about things on the old civic, so why did they not fix it in the new civic?!

I dont mind these new indicator stalks tbh, fantastic for the motorway, they just need a gentle push and job done!

I notice on a lot of modern cars you cannot have the rear fogs on independantly from the fronts,i never ever need to use my front, so i resent having to put them on before i can put the rears on:p

The Entire Land Rover.
Built for Off road, Cost thousands & get stuck anywhere & cannot climb hills :D

I couldn't agree more, I've queued behind a few people sitting on the brakes and indicating half a mile before the turning and I alternate between swearing to myself about the fact they're holding it on the brakes and unnecessarily indicating, and the fact the lights are so damn bright my retinas are being melted and that I can't see the indicator because it's in a ridiculous, stupid, "stylish" place.

VW's dashboard lighting also greatly irritates me, it looks nice in the soft blue but it's impossible to read the text behind it, mostly the climate control, with just a passing glance in the dark. I haven't driven a VW like this, just passengered a friend's Golf with the climate control and it weren't easy to read. Orange is *the* colour tbh ;)

Also another reason why I wish to destroy all soft-roaders/"SUVs" (except proper off-roaders) is the ride height meaning when I'm inevitably being tailgated by one, I'm also being blinded as the lights are at JUST the right height behind me :( Also being behind one means I can't see a sodding thing infront of me because of their size. All in the name of perceived safety :(

On my Seat Leon there are plastic covers on the side skirts for the jacking points. They are easy to take off but a complete nightmare to click back into place. I changed my front brake pads a few months back and it took longer to put the plastic covers back on than it did to change the pads.

Yup I've noticed this on a few cars, it's pretty annoying, when it's raining and dark, as it is these days it's impossible to see the orange light or the flashing.

Fiat Bravo, no space in the drivers footwell to rest your clutch foot, was really annoying on my courtesy car the other week.

Ford headlight stalk.

On most cars, you push the stalk forwards to lock on main beam, bring it bank central to turn off main beam. Pulling the stalk toward you will flash the main beam and then return normally by a spring.

On my Focus, both actions are done by pulling it toward you. So you pull it halfway for flash and it springs back, or all the way to lock full beam on. Unfortunately, it requires only very gentle pressure. The amount of times Ive gone to flash an oncoming driver only to lock the full beam on, blinding them...its about the only thing I don't like about my car :o
