GeForce 9 series, due for February 08

Well i got all my kit sorted in terms of mobo and CPU a few months back, so i have money put away for anything i might fancy, i doubt it will come in at £500, £400 maybe. If it does not give massive gains over a GTX, " ill still pick one up though " it maybe even cheaper, £500 is a big no no though.

I'll probably buy a GTX if they come in arround the £350 mark, any higher and Nvidia can shove it. Looking forward to seeing the specs of these though.

Theyre practically guaranteed to, i think the gtx at launch was around the 400+ mark as well.

GTX was £430 ish if i remember, now it can be had for £280. i will wait for the new 9800 GT, the 8800gt isnt completely upto scratch imo, not great in crysis, no dx10.1, shader 4.1, uses lots of power.

55nm 9 series midrange will be very nice im sure.

Although the high end cards cost a bomb, I think if you buy it at the start and it stays on top for a year + like the 880GTX has you can't complain.

The GTX seems to only reduce in price once the next gen is out. So better than buying it halfway or towards the end of the lifecycle, it might be 2/3s the price but it will be out of date in months.

I had a 7900GTX, Was great until Crysis on my 24".
I now have a 8800GT.

I am going to miss out on the GTS and get the 9800GTX

I agree that the high end cards are a rip off. But for the real men with 24"+ monitors it is required. Less of a rip off than SLI.

It is much easier to clock the CPU and RAM than it is the GFX, it really isn't the place to skimp on.

Iirc OcUK at launch it was nearer £500, went up and down a bit. XFX for about £430 on the day as I remember, they soon went.

110w is a lot of power? Thats pretty low I thought.

first post ive seen you make in ages, and it was an ati diss. good ol' cyber mav. im sure nearer the time though there will be many threads on the R700, just as there was with the R600. its just we have even less info on those compared to the D9e

funny how everyone is asking about the 9800 cards, guess no one gives a crap about r700, which is probably a good thing. ;)

Probably because its further down the line? And last i checked this is a thread with a possible release timeframe for the 9800 series.

Won't pay £400 for one £350 absoloute MAX.
I don't know. I've thought about this, and I never buy high-end cards on launch, but if D9E has a shot at lasting as long as the GTX has then I'd consider paying full launch price for one.

I really wish I'd bought a GTX last November now, totally missed out.

Yup. There is no way in hell I am waiting for the R700 after this years fiaso. Wait 6 months for something that is a load of rubbish. ATI need to prove themselves once again. I refuse to get hyped up about it.

I heard the rumours that the R700 core was actually going to be a dual GPU situation (similar to R680 with two cores on 1 PCB). Not touching that architecture with a barge pole.

Its rumoured to have 4 cores in one package much like a quad core chip. Whys it not worth touching? Nobody knows how it performs and its a different approach though very similar to what 3dfx were planning with the vsa 100 and onwards.

Well I heard a rumour that it comes with robotic hands so that if you take off your case panel it can give you a foot massage. It is supposedly pretty handy at making toast too, all rumours though.

And it's eight cores get it right.
