Now do you change car seats at the age or the weight?

We have car seats that are "apox 9 months - 4 years" and "9kg to 18kg"

Now the issues is BOTH boys;

2st11, 2st9
2 years and 1 month

18kg = 2st11.66

So weight is nearly there but they have another 2 years?

So what to do go by weight or age? I dont want to spend money on new car seats again however Im not risking kids at the same time..
 
Hmm thinking about it now the straps are nearly at the longest point so..

oh well, feel lied to now by britax do any children stay in them till they are 4? (as im sure my kids arnt that big)
 
Also it's best to keep them in the lower stage seats for as long as possible as they're safer. Which did a safety test on car seats, britax ones are some of the best with deep, side, head and body protection.
 
If they go up to 4 years are you sure the seats don't change so the normal car seatbelt is used? I know a lot of car seats do that.
 
Aye, the car seat in my car is something like 9 months to 4 years but there's no way I can imagine a 4 year old child fitting in to it.

What the others said, don't go by the age as every child will vary, so their weight & size will be the best guides.

I would hope the fact the age is quoted as an approximation that would be obvious enough. Afterall in vehicle crash dynamics the mass of things is rather influential.

4 years is likely to be around the height where a booster seat is required to ensure the child is restrained by belt acting on its pelvis rather than squidgy bits, this would be a group 2 seat.

I would base it mainly on whether they fit in the seat comfortably, once they don't then move up a group.

High backed booster is needed, a booster on it's own you might as well not bother as the safety is rubbish. The side protection is what's needed mainly.

yes but how can a 2 year old be the weight of a normal/aprox 4 year old ??
 
I think they probably go on the weights in the red books. For example my 4 year old (he was 4 at the end of Oct) son weighs 3 stone, so 19 kilos and my daughter who is 6 at the end of Feb weighs 3 and a half stone so 22.2 kilos. My baby who is 10 months weighs over 20 pounds (haven't had him weighed in a while) but their weight stays the same or rises slowly for ages.

Ah, our heath visitor(s) were uesless so we never bothered with them afer a year, we just get them to stand on the scales..

Same, I never visited them either but everyone should be issued a book as they are signed by midwives etc for newborn checks.
