I am now poor :(

should have got a black one! :p

lovely, very nice amplifiers. make sure you give it some room to breath, dont worry about how warm they run and most importantly, enjoy it! :D

The question is whats te Sony Blu Ray box and err why the hell would someone buy a Blu Ray machine over the PS3 unless your really hard up for DTS HD?

Noise issues, just watched a bluray via ps3 and it decided to ramp its fans up midway thru -other than that i love the ps3 as a bluray player.

Is it a 60GB PS3? The 60GB ones run hotter than the new 40GB one that came out. Sony did some tweaking to make the 40GB run cool and quiet (Which is why my PS3 will be a 40!)

Looks are always high on peoples list around here, PS3 is ugly in its own right and especially so compared to a standalone BR player.
Then theres 175w power consumption and the noise and heat to go with it versus 45W for a standalone.

rubbish lol, they are a nice looking piece of kit stood up. i also wouldnt drop a ps3 for any stand alone player that takes almost twice as long to start playing a disc. power consumption, well......he's running a an amp capable of drawing 5 times what that ps3 does from the mains, why should the player be a problem?

I have heard that, mine is a 60gb as i have had it a while now. Almost tempted to get a 40GB but mine does get used for the odd PS2 game, singstar mainly and thats out on the ps3 this week so could make BC a non issue !

It is an awful looking dust magnet the PS3 and the power consumption is shocking - i can easily justify the power my amp draws as it needs to to do its job, the ps3 is shockingly inefficient but at the moment i put up with it as it is still the most feature rich bluray player and until they (if ever) finalise the specs and the players come out 100% ready it is a safe option.

yep, audio/video. its an 8 channel (7.1) amplifier with 130w RMS.channel, with video switching (composite,s-video, component and hdmi). Advanced room speaker correction (called 'Audyssey') that measures speaker distance and frequency responses and adjusts accordingly, and loads of other really technical stuff lol. they also weigh the best part of 24 kilos.

Thanks...that is madness!

I supposed it's bit too strong for a normal everyday use? :o

I hate to burst anyones bubble but overall the PS3 is still the best Blu Ray player available.
Its not that noisy (certainly mine aint) and its quieter than most PCs

Its also one that will ALWAYS get firmware updates for compatibility. It will never have the BD Java incompatability issues that many stand alone players have. Its also the first 1.3a device offering 1080/24 and other benifits.

Funny too that load times are faster on a PS3 than Pioneer's most top end USA Elite Series Player, (not even available in the UK) Picture quality wise theirs very little in it, ask my friend hes selling his for about £600.

If you want the fastest loadtime then that will come from a high spec HTPC. More processing power. However try getting the full 7.1 PCM from a PC, agggh their you go another problem.

He shouldnt, but I was replying to Latte's quote why would 'anyone', not everyone lives alone and can afford to run a 175w optical disc player.

The PS3 is a toy, it looks like a toy, I know people with expensive AV racks who wouldnt touch it with a bargepole, even if they had room to stand it up.
And on its own it's a dust and fingerprint magnet.
In two or three years I can almost guarantee Latte will buy a new player on looks/size alone.

Youre not bursting everyones bubble, not everyone wants the best, Im not a picture quality watcher, so I'll buy a Blu-Ray player that doesnt draw 175W and put out heat and noise, and is slim and easy to use for the rest of the people in the house.

When BR players cost £50 in a few years will you still care about the PS3 and its firmware updates?

Who would have thought you could buy an upscaling DVD player to 1080P with Divx USB and HDMI cable included for £80?

Am I the only one who has to wait for my projector to warm up? Put disc in first the menu is ready when the projector is ready.

175w means that for a two hour film it will cost about 2p in electricity. if thats a major concern to some one planning on viewing HD films then there is an issue!

Where does the heat go? The less heat in my cinema room the better.

Dunno about the power usage but then, most large 40+ inch LCD/Plasma use around 300+ watts. If they can afford running that, then they can afford this!

thats right, its singling out things on the ps3 that shouldnt be an issue to anybody even half serious about home cinema. when a smaller, more power efficient, quicker bluray player comes alone than what i already have, id buy it. ideally we all want something quieter/small/more efficient ect, but that isnt a reason to dismiss the best bluray player on the market.

is that all you do with your projector? turn it on, put a disc in your bluray player and let it spin up while the projector is warming up? when you've finished watching one film do you then turn the projector off again?

I think people are overplaying the load times on BD/HDDVD discs, i'd never even thought about the load times before now. As said things like receivers and projectors take a while to come online anyway, by the time everything is ready the loading time of the disc is the last thing on my mind.

Its the principle of it for me, having an expensive to run H/C setup doesn't bother me but waste where its not needed is waste !

I thinks its more that Sony could easily make it more efficient and therefore quieter and using less power that grates me.

However it is the best all round solution at the moment and with renting Blu-Rays its a very good and cheap setup.
