A £40000 V6 Metro?

It's not ill informed, I know thats powerful engine in something that weighs as much as a rizla, and it's all rare.
To be honest, it's all subjective, I don't think i know a car any uglier, my opinion isn't ill informed at all.
That one for sale looks especially tacky, some of the ones on google aint so offending to the eyes, just boxy and chavvy looking. that one has a terrible colour scheme though.

Then again, all my opinion, i'd rather have a golf R32 or something of the sort.

It looks like a heavily modified metro to me, it's still a metro.
 
Well yeah, but you know what I mean :p

I wasn't even around during Group B Rallying and think it looks terrible (can't stand OTT body kits etc.) but I know that damn near everything on there serves a purpose. If I had £40k spare change I would have one.

Back to topic.

This isn't something you'd buy to drive around in as well as have fun in. It is purely for the purpose of rallying.

You think in the mentality of buying this as a 2nd/3rd car instead of your only car. It's like buying a GP car, except as it's road legal people think they need to have creature comforts. There shouldn't be any.

Have the porsche/m5 for driving around and this for a laugh in and admiring the heritage.

Are there really rally/offroad tracks near you in Britain for rallying?
Where I live (okay, aint the UK but still lol) I'd have to drive at least 40 good miles to get out of the densly populated area and start looking out for any offroad roads and even then I'd still have to search prolly.

Just pure asphalt around where I live.


Although I disagree with him and would prefer the metro above a golf, I still think there are far better cars and that the metro is probably the last of all the B group cars I'd like.

That wouldn't beat a 150bhp maxi corsa on a rally stage, never mind the 6r4.

And that is precisely the point!

There are many, many faster road cars today - a hell of a lot of production cars for £20k will kill the 6r4 on the road, BUT that was fairly true when they were new.

However, very little will stay with a 6r4 driven to 90% of it's capabilities on a rally stage. Even on a 100% tarmac rally, a well driven car will spend 50-60% of the time out of shape and sliding, something the metro does exceedingly well.

The 6r4 were very, very successful for many years in Clubman rally events & still win rallies today against group N and ex works group A cars, plus they killed many newer cars in rallycross (where the ultra short wheelbase and the ability got get 800-odd bhp through turbo'ing was pretty handy!!!)
 
I never said it was for rallying, all I want is a car that eats asphalt.

Also I find it hard to believe a corse would win even in a rally, just put bigger offroad tires & smaller wheels on the skyline, strip it, make it ride a lot higher and it has a lot of advantages over the corsa:

In which case you are totaly missing the point. This is NOT a road car, comparing it some VW hot hatch is completely irrelevant.

Thats a great idea... must be why so many skylines are in rallies :confused:

In rallies its ALL about acceleration and handling (factor reliability in there too). VERY LITTLE would beat this in a 0-100 sprint on the road (in full spec). Rallies rarely break 100 mph. This car is specifically designed (with 80s tech) to handle and be fast.

As far as rallies go, this car (and other group b) are MILES faster than anything since, despite the tech advances. Handling has improved, gearboxes etc maybe.

Did i mention an 800bhp skyline would be terrible in a rally.

Doesn't have to use all of it's 800bhp, besides it has 4 wheels that propel and steer the car instead of 2 like the corsa.
Also no way you can tell me a Nissan is less reliable than an Opel.
I think in a 0-100 sprint a 150 bhp corsa would still be destroyed by a skyline no matter what surface, because the skyline ( or scoob, or evo, or 3000GT , or any 4wd sports car) has double the weels propelling it.

By the way I'm not comparing it to the metro, the post you quoted was a reply to the post above it where a guy said that it wouldn't beat a 150 bhp corsa.

Ah, but I made the reference to you saying the skyline would win on a rally, the maxi corsa (or super 1600) are custom designed rally cars, they'd kill the skyline as it'd would hit the first large compression and fly off the road into the nearest tree!! And on tarmac events, the 2wd cars can equal and sometimes beat the 4wd cars as the extra traction is negated by the increased weight and drag)

It'd be completly useless in a rally. RWS is lethal in rallying as would be ATTESSA and the active 4wd in the skyline, plus it's just too damn big and heavy.

Why would Nissan spend millions building the Pulsar (Sunny) GTiR purely to compete in group A rallying worldwide, if the skyline would have done the job (Answer = it wouldn't, in testing it was useless, far slower than the current group A cars of the time)

Don't get me wrong, on a (reasonably straight) road, the skyline would kill a group A evo, never mind the corsa, but that wasn't my original point. If a car's not already popular in rallying then it's probably crap at it.

I'm still absolutely stunned at the amount of people in this thread, who claim to be petrolheads, or car freaks, or enthusiasts - whatever phrase you choose - yet have absolutely no clue what this car is, what it is capable of, why it isn't "just a Metro" etc.

It beggars belief.
