New car pics!!

I like the car but I can't stand the alloys, would change them in an instant if it were mine. Each to their own, though.

That red top doesn't look right, as if someone has painted it.

A swift glance at the engine code'll tell ya ;)

EDIT: At that age, and UKDM, its most likely a painted cam cover :(

The original honda spec sheet says its a 195bhp version.. Which im led to believe is the red-top?

Best way to tell looking from the picture is that the cover looks smooth to me , and if it is its been repainted but im sure its ment to be black

The Type-S was red (different shade to the one in your pic, and produces 220bhp). Pretty sure the 197bhp engines were never red...not 100% sure though.

Nice car though, used to have a great laugh in me old Ludey.

Hi there

Nice car, but the one I really like is the Prelude Type-S.

Looks a lot better but its also got 220BHP, LSD, ATTW or whatever it is amongst many other great things that make it a great car along with weighing a lot less.

Hi,

Welcome to the Honda Prelude 5th Gen club!! :)

I've got a 2.2 manual 5th Gen, Motegi (red top) in Sparkling Yellow (Gold to most) Truely excellent cars and Vtec is always good for a laugh, bad for the wallet. Getting very hard to get hold of now, so you've done well to find one in good nick.

Those alloys look like geniune Motegi 17's, but they've been sprayed darker. The red H's are not genuine, Honda never produced a Tyre R Prelude, nor did the Type S where the same badge.

I've got to admit, your red top is very red. Mines a lot duller than that and has a matt finish, nowhere near as shinney. If it is a real Motegi 5th, its 197bhp on 97Ron+, if its a VTI its 185bhp. The Type S makes 209bhp on 97ron, not 220bhp as most people seem to think.
Most Motegi's wear the Motegi badge on the rear of the car and were produced 1999 onward I believe. The VTI often had the Montegi bodykit on, but not the engine.

nice car

edit, just noticed you seem to have the Montegi airbox on, so looking like its a real redtop, maybe someone respayed it?!?!

Edit edit: Facebook pics show its not a Montegi as its got 2.2VTI written on the back. Its a 185Bhp version with a sprayed redtop.

How much did you pay? if you dont mind me asking :)

Induction looks slightly different too, but below is a JDM

The DOHC and the Vtec are like metallic, but dull.

I went to a honda dealer, and asked their advice, they didnt know!
However, we established the engine number.. H22A2-1003845 - Anywhere where i can check this?

Oh, and i have also replaced the worn gearknob with a very understated mono knob. Tidies it up nicely as the gearknob was the only bit that looked a bit poo!

It seems is a painted blacktop - according to the engine code. So odd that the original 1997 specsheet that came with the car states 195hp, I will check it out, I left it at my parents when i went to show my dad!

How was it sold? Anything on the logbook?

Main thing mate is that you are happy. If it was miss sold though, I would either contact the seller and ask for some money back, or if you were specifically after a red top get you money back :)

The guy said he had no idea, and he hadnt painted it red, and didnt even know what it was. I didnt buy it thinking it was a red-top, I didnt actually see pics of the engine before i went to look at it, after buying it!

I will check it all out when i get the documents back later :)

Enjoying the VTEC scream though? I have driven a Civic Type R and was underwelmed. But the noise my bro in law Accord Type R is awesome, sends shivers down my spine :D

I must get VTEC at some point, but NSX is out of my price range :(

Those wheels look quite similar to mine but mine have larger centre caps so I don't think they are ATR alloys.

Nice motor though mate.

Wow i did an insurance quote on that very car a few weeks ago, spotted on pistonheads :p.

I'm in the market for one next year, hopefully mid summer time. Can't wait! I wish you trouble free motoring!
