Thining of buying a SAAB 93 SE - 02 plate.. about 4500 quid. Anyone got one, any known issues that people have seen on these cars?

not test driven it, but it did look nice and when i sat in it, felt nice.

So, anyone had one of these before?

yay or nay...

Colin

My misses has a Saab 93 S T plate, we've had it 6 years and it's been great, incredibly boring and dull but smooth, comfy and very reliable.
In all the time we've had it apart from the usual service items we've had a water pump to replace.
I take it you'll be looking at the newer shape one as 4.5k for the same shape as ours seems expensive.

Not sure, all the 93 SE's ive seen are convertables, and this one isnt... will have to do more checks before i go test it, looked very nice, long and sleek.... will see if i can get a picture.

I had a 2001 93 SE 2.0t from new and had it 3 years and found it completely reliable and an excellent long distance comfy cruiser.

Blinded by the way it looks? I'd hope not given it looks like it's 15 years old, although not suprising given its essentialy a rebadged 900 is it not?

Never had or driven a 93 but my 95 Aero was comfortable, handled safely, was totally reliable and really shifted. I would imagine the 93 will be smooth, comfortable and reliable and that turbo will give you real poke when you need it. Saab really have nailed the turbo engine and it should be really torquey, right when you need it to be. It might not be the sharpest tool around but at that price it's a lot of car for the money and will serve you well.

What else is there at that price given all the attributes of the Saab? V6 Mondeo? 323i perhaps?

I like the look, in the pics it does look shorter and taller than it is when you see it with the mk1.

Still, each to their own, will take it for a test drive next weekend after work and see how it drives.. wonder if it will beat my corsa lol.

TY for the replies.

Don't do the deal until you've driven loads of other stuff as well becuase frankly if you drive a Corsa right now you could test drive a Vectra 1.6 and it'd feel awesome.

Which was based on the underpinnings of the 89 Cavalier...

a friend had one a few years back, and i remember him complaining about the electrics.. i think he had the whole front panel with the radio, etc replaced twice..

Don't forget that a switch counts as about 10 due to all the component parts...

good, solid, reliable cars. Turbo kicks in nicely, good torque throughout the whole rev range, eats motorway miles, not that economical in town.

Keep it below 3k revs on the motorway though (car sits at just over 3k at 90mph) and it'll run without problems, I managed to get to the RR and back which is 140miles each way on 3/4 of a tank (60 litres) which also involved a bit of hoonage on that day as well.

Great cars, will last you for years :)

I like Saabs even though they're a bit ugly but why not spend another £500-£1000 more and get a 9-3 saloon? It's an infinitely better car.
