I look terrible in pictures

I always look rubbish in photos but am happy when I look in the mirror. I think its they way the photos are taken. For example pictures of me that are natural and I'm not trying to "pose" look fine. Also if I need to have a photo taken for whatever reason I either get my bf or one of my friends to take it as they seem to be good at taking them ? :D

why the question mark at the end?

yeah i tihink its that same for me, if its natural sort of didn't know camera was there picture then i look great ;) but ones where people go smile i look like a plank but tbh so do most people. I love going on hliday with my dad as all his photos are of use standing close smiling whichis very unatural and boring imo which when looking backmakes me laugh, we are clsoe and have a great time but i mean its not a real photo of people doing stuff, just standing there doing same thing just with slightly different background if you can see it.

I'm in the same boat, random pictures of me always make me look like a gormless idiot, if I have any expression on my face. If I look in the mirror with a straight face I think I look fine, as soon as I smile though I look stupid. Ah well :p

Possibly one of only 2 sensible answers :p

Welcome to barrel distortion caused by the tiny fish eye lenses on modern digital cameras. A nice big, flat SLR lens will make you look much better :)

Ha. I used to think I wasn't photogenic, then I realised that I'm just ugly. Got over it. Personality > Looks (at least that's what I tell myself :))

If you think about a pose and then take a while with the shot it'll look really bad and somewhat retarded.

Do the old model thing and look away from the camera. Then look towards the camera and take a photo at the same time or shortly after and it'll get you a more natural shot. Or take lots of photos of yourself changing the position of your head / shoulders / body / legs after each shot.

(I don't spend all day taking pictures of myself, honest!)

I like to tell a hilarious shaggy dog story to the camera while taking pictures every ten seconds. Then it a) might look like a candid shot of me talking to actual humans, and b) generally catches my boyish charm and winning smile at least once.

Also when I tip my head back to guffaw raucously it hides several of my chins.

Photo turns everything flat, which means most of your facial features will be visible in a photograph clearly, compared to naked eyes. With that being said, whilist adjusting camera angle (for example, having the camera at at least an arm length and higher than your portrait level) you would usually achieve better results. However that is not always the rule.

Also try not to deliberately pose when taking a picture of yourself, you tend to look nervous and unnatrual. Think professional models, putting lighting/post-production aside, they always know how to pose properly during a photoshoot, and would look very natural as well.

Strong light (adjusting contrast/lighting to bright) would hide away most features of the face, flattern everything except your eyes, nose and mouth would also achieve a desire effect.

To sum up this boring long input, just take many photos of yourself, or pose on your own webcam. Eventually you would find the best pose/angle to take pictures of urself (although it might get boring after, since all of your photos are in same pose/angle :D)

bear in mind that you will look different in the mirror because its a mirrored image! Unless of course you have perfectly symmetrical features and as it happens symmetry = beauty.

Also when you see yourself in the mirror its 3d and its flat on a picture, that will effect how it looks. Then theres how good you are at photography as theres loads of things that can affect the appearance of something, eg. lighting can drastically change the look of something.

Also when something is in picture you tend to focus on things that you wouldnt normally notice just because you can.

And of course theres just whether you are good looking or not lol :D

i hate cameras, cameras hate me.
i just live with it by doing my best to avoid the cameras :D

im not ugly
well i think im not and until today i had no reason to think i was
im fairly successful with women and often on the tube and in clubs i notice many good looking women "giving me the eye"

or maybe they looking out how ugly i am
i don't know anymore :(

No matter how good someone looks they are always going to have a few dodgy looking photos.

Most of mine are good (im quite good looking anyway) but I so have few drunken ones that make me look stupid.
