I'm going to have a new/fresh build on an Asus Striker extreme and new 2 x 150GB Raptors. I'll be using XP Pro.

Now I'd like to have a Raid 0 setup, but the last time I did a self build I messed it up I think and never got the raid working properly.

Has anyone, or can anyone, give me an Idiots guide to setting one up from what needs to be done in the BIOS to what's needed for the install. Just don't want to mess it up this time :D

Thanks !

hi if it is the nvidia chipset dont bother nothing but hassle raid keeps failing if its intel just make your driver disk on floppy and when u instal xp press f6 and follow instructios ive been using raps for a while with no probs but when i had striker with nvidia couldnt get more than 2 days without fail

OK, well it is the :

Asus Striker Extreme nForce 680 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard

Has anyone else had problems with this and Raid, seems surprising for a board that's been around a while and I haven't seen that issue mentioned in reviews...

If there is np, I'll just use the drives single, but would like raid 0.

Thanks

Did you have a quick read of the motherboard manual? that should have a page on Raid set-up?

Not used that mobo myself but have set-up Raid on other systems, pretty much:

Build system and connect drives and boot up, have a quick look in BIOS and see if there is an option to 'enable' the Raid Controller (sometimes its disabled by default), then save n exit.

When the computer boots up you should first see the normal BIOS POST screen then the next screen should be a simple RAID POST page where you have to press a key combo (e.g: ALT + I) to enter RAID Setup.

Once in RAID set-up it should be a two or three step process to get it working, just let the RAID-BIOS know which drives you want to use and what type of RAID you wish and then save n exit.

When it comes to installing the O/S you may need to load drivers from a floppy (well with WinXP anyway u need to press F6 on the first loading screen) but I read that Windows VISTA has some RAID drivers built in? (dunno about nVidia ones though).

Hope that helps :)

Vista will be ok for Nvidia SATA controlers but not sure in Raid Mode.

Nvidia Drivers during installaion tell you this and how to make a floppy or such from the driver package your currently installing.
