Police Abuse

So, it is a commonly held belief that the Police often flout and abuse the laws which they are tasked with upholding.

Example 1, last weekend Yellow van shoots through a red light going onto a roundabout to join the M62 - Oldham/Rochdale junction.

Unfortunately i didnt get his reg, but i did note that it was some form of traffic policing van, shame i didnt snap a shot.

Example 2, in blackpool the same weekend, at 7am our landlord got arrested by the cops, we miss out on cooked breakfast so go wandering around town for some scran, get abck to the B&B and low and behold a White Van parked up half on the curb (well probably 70% over the curb and 30% over double yellow lines.)

Needless to say i took a photo on my phone camera so i have the guys reg,

oh yea it turned out to be a police van parked up, (blocking in cars which were parked in the parking bays...), taking statements from the landlady's MRS.

SO.. not an emergency situation by any means, just too LAZY to park and walk back to their van so they park ILLEGALLY. i do infact have the camera shot to prove it and this will corroborate with the time given for the interview etc

Is this acceptable? should i report this, seeing as i have a pic inc the reg and incident? What is likely to happen if i do report it, or Example1?

they always abuse there position. i saw the other week a policeman turnin left on a road were it specifically said not to! So he turned his lights on just for that bit. They do it all the time round here.. But hey i guess thats the bonus for being a police officer!

I forwarded a picture of the police parked in a bus lane, pointing the wrong way down a one way street and getting back in their car with a tesco lunch.

If you had that much of a problem with a bit of dodgy parking why didn't you speak to them directly rather than sneaking around taking photos and mailing them on?

One rule for us, another for them.

And the Police wonder why people are reluctant to offer them any kind of assistance?

Report it, but, tbh, your wasting your time.

Every Surrey police officer caught breaking the speed limit by a roadside camera in the last five years, without any blue lights flashing, has had their notice of prosecution withdrawn by a senior officer - Pretty much says it all imo.

What will it achieve for you? Nothing.

What will it achieve for him? A **** load of hassle.

Your call I suppose.

They have enough **** to deal with, without the added hassle of a wannabe crusader giving them a photo of an an illegal parking.

Give 'em a break Nick ;).

well because they were inside, presumably interviewing said Landlady, and we were outside, having just got back to where we had LEGALLY parked our cars at the B&B carpark - AFTER handing back our keys earlier. So i was hardly sneaking around and tbh i can anticipate the kind of reaction id get from the copper, bearing in mind the way they stormed the place first thing and arrested the Landlord. True Story.

Thing is though i REALLY hate it when people park on double yellow's especially in Royton and Rochdale as it can be quite a hazard, typically outside a chippy, or shop, and i often see police drive past seemingly completely oblivious to the obstruction taking place.

but yea if i got busted breaking the law, do you really think the police would "give me a break"? or would they prosecute for the most severe punishment that prosecution could administor?

i dont mind if the police are in Pursuit and do some dodgy manouvers but simply wearing a uniform should not put you above the law...

That would be the CPS that does that, the only thing the police do is the custody sgt will decide wether to charge you with the offence or not.

double standards.

but equally, they are doing a hard job, so they do deserve to be cut a little slack.

Just supposing that the police always parked correctly in properly marked bays in public car parks. How long before people started whinging that the police spent too much time traipsing from job to job, and not enough time policing?

As for illegal turns with no lights (or just long enough to do the turn) - you do realise that police often want to get to scene quickly without lights, right? Particularly if they want to catch someone in the act. You have absolutely no idea why they did it, so you simply assume that they were pulling privilege. They may well have been, but equally there may well be a good reason for it.

As for the police not getting tickets when going through cameras over the speed limit but without light flashing? Please read the RTA properly: the police have a COMPLETE exemption from speed limits (as do the fire brigade and ambulances, but no-one ever complains about them...) if it would hinder official business. Note: official business, NOT emergencies. There seems to be a lot of people here who don't seem to understand this.

I have been in Police cars that were borderline dumped in some cases because you were dealing with an emergency.

The public aren't always aware of why the car is parked like it is because they are not always aware of the job the policemen are dealing with at the time.

Your primary concern is to secure that vehicle and deal with the incident.

Now Im not that blinkered to say that some officers don't bend the rules but be aware that you may not always be in possesion of the full facts.

My parents are friends with a few coppers and as such used to get invited to the Christmas party that took place on the top floor of Stoke police station, before it became a strictly 9 to 5 operation.

Anyway, long story short. You'd be surprised at the amount of serving officers who couldn't stand up straight and/or slurred their words yet somehow deemed themselves fit to drive home!

So should a doctor or a coal miner be allowed to park where they want and not obey the rules as htye have hard/physically demanding jobs?

if i doctor was making a housecall I think he should be allowed to park on double yellow lines.

If an ambulance was parked on double yellow lines whilst paramedics were seeing to a patient, should the ambulance be clamped?
