Hey all,

I'm going to be doing the Norwich Half Marathon tomorrow morning, so would like to know what pre-run advice you have for today and tomorrow. I've been training well for a few weeks now ( I can provide details if you wish), but didn't do any from yesterday onwards. Warm-up advice (do I want to go for a pre-run brisk walk?) would be particularly handy.

Also, do I want to consume any sort of energy products? I hadn't thought of the idea until my running partner suggested it, so I quickly popped to boots last night and picked up a broad selection of:

Lucozade Sport Orange 500ml
Lucozade Sport Carbo Gel
Dextro Energy Classic Tablets

Thing is, do I actually want to be using these? And if so, how?

I'm not really used to having a large amount of sugar in my diet, and if I do it usually sends me off my head pretty bad. I don't really want to give myself massive highs and lows through the race by doing this...

your thoughts would be greatly appreciated. :)

So far I've managed to raise £164.50 for a local cancer charity :D, I'm now pretty motivated to get a good time on the run.

As above, but I'd advsie against the energy stuff unless you've trained with it. Could end up with a dodgy stomach if it doens't agree with you. Just do what you'd do before a training run i.e. don't try anything new on the morning of the race.

I normally have a slow jog before races - but this is mainly for something to do whilst waiting for the start.

Good luck :)

I did a 10k locally last year (doesnt sound much and i know) and whilst i was training i was effectively lo-carbing (40-50g a day), i was doing this to lose weight.

Anyway the night before and during the day, I indulged myself with some complex carbs, and honestly i had bags of energy whilst doing that run, i shaved a good 5 mins of my best time.

sorry, only just came back from an Oxford interview

I was quite pleased with my performance for a first time run.

I got a time of 1:30:28 and came 138th :)

Results are: http://www.triathlonnemesis.com/norwich.aspx?id=199

I'm 739.

thanks for all your help everyone! :D

I might have to try another in Spring...

A true 'sports arena' achievement and all people are posting about is football :p
