Top Gear Returns Sunday 7th October

The stig has done hundreds of laps in that car and said on other occasions that there is no way to get any more time out of the car yet hamilton has a few laps with it and nearly beats the time.

come on people something not iffy there? all the other f1 drivers times were close yet hamilton is quite a few seconds quicker??

that car seems to be faster than last seasons anyway has no one noticed that the lap times for "star in a reasonably priced car" are consistantly quicker than what stars were getting on the last series??

mansells car which was a 2002 model had full trim in it yet hamiltons was a 2003 and had buckets all round

hmmm

A while ago Clarkson was slagging off the I-drive system in Beemers and now he slags off the Vauxhall for not having such a system and being basic

He was slagging off the original i drive iirc, i drive 2 is meant to be much better.

were the previous drivers not in the Liana, and Hamilton in that new one... i forget what it's called.

Im going to open a can of worms......

lol. Yeah it's a nice theory. but they never show the whole lap so it's entirely consistant with all the other laps.

If The Stig was so good no one could beat his lap times then HE would be in Formula 1 wouldn't he. There is always someone better though.
I think the only reason he holds the lap record over the other F1 drivers is because he has done literally thousands of laps on that track and they have not.

Very cynical but i thought the same thing at the time The_One...doesnt add up. It was the same car though was it not? All the suzuki?

the others were a 2002 car with a racing bucket and rest of the interior intact

hamiltons was a 2003 car with buckets all round

that is different maybe you dont watch it all the time?? ;)

oh look full trim, now have a look at hamiltons again ;)

Wow, I love how people are unwilling to accept things. I guess you think the Moon landing was fake and Elvis is still alive.

I think you'll find that Mansell's lap was actually in both of the cars. Check the footage as the licence plate changes in one of two shots.

BTW is alonso the Stig?

Remember when the Stig caught the train to london??

Well when The Stig was on the train, he picked up a copy of the Metro, with Lewis Hamilton celebrating a race win on the back of it. Upon seeing Hamilton, he threw the paper away in apparent disgust

The Stig is a white male with dark hair

The Stig has driven Alonso's Renault F1 car around the track previously

Alonso lives in Oxford, as does Jeremy Clarkson

When Alonso took part in his first test for McLaren, he wore plain white overalls and a plain white helmet

When Alonso first moved to Oxford, the original Stig was "killed off" by driving a Jag off an aircraft carrier

Sounds plausable to me???

They had two Liana's (same goes for the Daewoo) in case they broke it (David Soul, Lionel Richie etc). The Liana evolved over the first couple of series presumably after the HSE nannies / the insurer's caught on to what they were doing and they had to add more safety kit to avoid getting anally probed.

Oh and the Dr Who special with an auto box.

Doesn't surprise me if they get quicker - a new car takes 10-15k to run in properly. Mk2 Golf GTIs with 80k on the clock were always quicker than sub 20k miler.

I reckon anything Hamilton does will always be Scrutinised, people cant take it that he has the driving ability to compete with that of the more established names in the sport.

Where I work a couple of customers were having a good chat about how easy it must be to drive a modern formula 1 car and that any one could do it. Where do people get these ideas from?!

I still maintain a top-class driver will excel whatever type of car you stick him in - think Senna and Mansell. Hamilton has the potential to rewrite F1 history - he seems to have that extra competitive edge that's been missing from Coulthard, Button etc.

Comparatively modern era F1 looks easy with the electronic nanny state reigning it in and regulating starts etc. Bring back 1986-era turbo cars with 1500bhp, huuuuge turbo lag, 1 lap qualifying tyres, proper H-gate gearbox and a lot less downforce...

Anti-stall is for girls. :D
