Hi Folks

Just wondering if any of you know where I could get cheaper tickets for 2 adults return to Stoke. On the websites I've looked at, they are asking in the region of £95 .

I recall there being something on TV a while back where you could save money by getting tickets to 1 destination and then from that destination to your final destination anyone remember that?

Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Also consider booking 2 singles rather than a return. I usually do this as it works out cheaper than a straight return. The Trainline is good for comparing single / return prices.

You could get the train to Manchester then the megabus to London for £5. That's what i'd do to save some money. :)

Booking in advance can considerably reduce the price of tickets especially if you can book a whole month in advance

this was on radio 2 last week. if you try to break up the journey i.e changed trains half way it can work out cheaper and so does travelling at bizzare times of the day/night. so does booking in advance

The most you can book in advance is 12 weeks....this will save you the most cash. Going to London from Newcastle on Sat for £40 return, 2 singles booked 12 weeks ago, one for £10 and one for £30
:D

I booked Nottingham to London 2 weeks ago to travel on 5th January. £18.50 for two singles first class with a railcard :D on the day is about £100 each way. I booked the same trip to go down last weekend on the same day for £18.50 each way first class 8 days in advance.

I always book tickets via TheTrainLine in advance, the savings are huge.

They are the same price as everyone else becuase of the way the railway ticketing system works. Infact, arguably, thetrainline is the most expensive way to buy tickets becuase they charge a £2 surplus on credit card purchases whereas other sites do not.

The key rule is simply to book as far in advance as you can - this enables you to get cheaper advance purchase tickets. I've booked return travel to Bristol for the end of the month, in 1st Class, for substantially less than usual simply by booking a month in advance. It doesn't matter which site you use, or even if you visit the station, as the ticket choice will be mostly the same.

Thanks for the recommendations guys.

Unfortunately I only found out today and will be travelling down on the 22nd December and returning on 24th so got to book pretty quickly by the sounds of things.

I thought about driving down but the hassle and cost of parking etc would be outweighed.
