Is Service History recorded at dealerships?

Hi all.

My GF has a 2004 Corsa (1.2) and needless to say, is a girl and is a complete novice when it comes to the car.

So, after showing her how to top up her washer jets today, i thought i'd replace the broken wing mirror glass. Didn't have any tools handy to price the glass from the backing so i went to get the screwdriver from the spare wheel kit in the boot... theres no kit there.

So, after i had a good hunt around, i asked her what exactly she was given with the car, she said recpeits for the car, finance papers etc and the MOT certificate, also the green log book slip for new owners.

So we popped down to the Vauxhall dealership and i explained (to the guy who actually sold her the car) that there was no wheel brace/jack etc, and also no owners manual.

In the owners pack thing should have been the service book, which isn't there. So basically she has a car with no recorded service history. I said to the guy surely they must have taken it out of the car (maybe for cleaning) so maybe theres a chance that they could find them, he was quite sure about the fact he couldn't find anything.

Now, in fairness to the guy, he went and got us a Corsa owners manual, and the CD player manual, also the wheel brace, jack etc but we still have no Service Booklet.

What do you think my chances are of writing a letter of complaint, and requesting that they provide a service for the car (even a basic one would suffice) and a new service book to have a record of it.

Doesn't seem too unreasonable, does it?

What concerned me is they guy said the car had been "Network-Q'd" before she collected the car, so must have been serviced as thats what they do, but how are we to know? Worst case scenario is something goes wrong with the car because it infact didn't have a service, and Vauxhall then refuse to repair under warranty, which she really couldn't afford to let happen....

Any advice chaps/chapesses?

Phil

See, now i asked the guy this, and he said that it had been through the Network-Q check, and that it would have had a service, yet he could find no proof of it what so ever.

Sounds like he's being lazy.. how long have you had the car?

Ninja Edit: As you say, if it went through network Q there would have to be evidence of servicing..

She's owned it since July/August time.

Being a female, and excited about her new car, she didn't really stop to think about the details such as Service History (although she was told when she was looking at it that it had a full history) and wheel braces.

Probably best that you perhaps write to someone at the garage, see what you get in response.. then if they still dont play ball with the service history, go higher..

I would speak to the service manager and see what he has to say about it. If the car was sold with the impression that it had a full service history, which it must have to be a network Q car (I assume) then you should have a hard copy of it.

They might not necessarily have it on their computer system if the car hasn’t been serviced there, I’m not too sure if Vauxhall have a dealer wide history program. Some Manufactures do and some are kept at local dealership level.

When I purchased my wifes Honda Civic we had a similar situation but the garage sorted it all out, they contact the Honda dealership the car was originally purchased from and got them to go through their records and issue a replacement service book.

She had a phone call today following the letter she sent, they have found the Service history and are sending it out to her :)
