I was thinking about this last night. I walk to work in the mornings, walk home for lunch, and also walk home at the end of the evening [it takes about ten mins to do the walk from home to work]. Seeing as I spend most of the day at a desk - and if I'm at home all evening - how many calories would I burn off in a day? I imagine you still burn them off while idle, but not that many... can anyone help?

It's one of those things you can't just come up with a figure for, it varies from person to person. All you can really say is that the general figure for grown men is 2000 - 2500 calories per day.

You just have to judge stuff by your own body, if you're putting on weight you're consuming more calories then you are burning off.

That's exactly the thing, I'm losing weight... and I'm eating about 1500 calories a day. So therefore I must be burning more than that every day by just sitting at a desk and walking for half an hour? Odd. I suppose I'll just have to eat more :D

well, the recommended average intake for a man is 2500, so yes, I expect you to loose wait fairly fast.

That 2500 considers you don't really do much eercise. As soon as you do some time in the gym or whatever you can easily throw on another 1000 or more.

How much would a 17 year old who is 5'7, and weighs 11 stone with a body fat percentage of 14.9% use up doing nothing?
