see, that explanation just doesn't hold water with me
normally I'd let that go - but I'm afraid you can't go round calling other people dumb when you spell the same word correctly and incorrectly in the same sentence
I find it strange that no-one says anything about everybody else's beliefs, but mine get several replies!
BTW those quotes are about the Old Testament Jewish law, not the commands of God
if you looked at my post it was corrected immediately after i posted. stop trying to be a wise ass
Hang on - wasn't the bible put together by constantine to unite his people?
see, that explanation just doesn't hold water with me
how come it's still incorrect then. seems like I'm trying and succeeding.

Sin/evil has no existence by itself, it is simply an attitude of mind that a free will creature can choose.......![]()
that depends if you believe in free will. God created the earth and bad things happen here.
Do you really think that picking holes in other people's beliefs will make them believe them any less?
They are from the Christian Bible, who exactly is it that decides which bits of it you ignore?
Its not about choosing what to ignore, its about taking it for what it is. The law, as written in the Old Testament was for the Israelite people, to keep them set apart for God, and seen as different to the people about them.
The law is Impossible to keep, and serves to show us our need for Jesus.
If we were capable of keeping the law then there would be no need for Jesus as we would be able to earn our own salvation. But because we fail, we need the forgiveness that flows from the death and resurrection of Jesus, because, out of love for us all, he took our sin upon himself, that we might accept it and be restored to our relationship with God, which we had until the fall in the garden.

....Free will doesn't explain how the choice of evil got there in the first place....

Free will is no answer either. Free will is just choice. What you chose from is the point. As the Creator of everything, all the infinite choices must stem from God, either that or he is not truely omnipotent. Hence the concept of good and evil stems from God and he gave us free will to chose which path we take. Free will doesn't explain how the choice of evil got there in the first place.
