Hi. This may sound silly but is there a way of slowing down your metabolism?

As for the past 2-3 months ive been eating as much as possible breakfast then sandwich at 11 then 2 sandwiches or tin of beans at lunch then snack at around 3 then dinner at about 6-7 then gym then a snack after and i still got no weight gain i dont understand it. I then ate just as much for the week but without goin to the gym and i only gained a pound!! Is there an easy way of overcomin this hurdle? My current weight is 9 and a half stone and im about 5 10 in height. Would like to get to at least 11stone but seems impossible
 
Eat more! I know you think you're eating as much as possible but I've been there (9.5st @ 6ft) and 9 times out of 10 you're not as big an eater as you think.

If you can't physically eat any more food then try eating more energy dense food ie. more fat. 1g of carbs (and protein) is 4cals, 1g fat is 8cals

But you cant turn fat into muscle though can you what type of things do you suggest eating? I was contemplating having protein shakes but was advised not to because of my dads side havin very high bloody pressure or is this nonsense?

Correct, fat can't be turned into muscle but if your body can use fat (and carbs) as fuel then it can use the protein for repair and growth. The equation really is that simple, if you eat excess calories you grow, to you eat insufficient calories you lose weight.

High bloody pressure eh? Damn that pressure ;) As far as i'm concerned (in simple terms) a quality "no added nonsense" whey protein powder (protein shake) is no different than real food. If you said you were going to eat an extra 2 chicken breasts a day would anyone advise against it?
 
Nuts, seeds, oils - anything high in fat!!

So do suggest instead of eating several sandwiches etc have the 3 main meals and just eat nuts during the day? I will buy some whey protein tommorow as how u put it is very true! How many times a day do u suggest to have this supplement?

No.

You want to be eating 6 times a day to keep your metabolism high and your body fueled with nutrients for growth and repair.

Eat more!

I'm a tiny 5'4", no more than 63KG and I eat more than you do.
 
well i went out today bought some whey protein but it doesnt say when to take it and how many times a day only telss the measurements etc what would anyone recomend?

wardie i would try and eat a little more but being at work hard to have loads of breaks without taking the p!ss :(

as ive already said in post #7, post up your diet and then maybe we can advise...
 
ok today i had a bowl of co co pops approx 40-50 grams big bowl.
1130 2 slices of pate on toast
1330 tin of beans 2 toast and 5 slices of cheese
1500 twix and kit kat (small size)
dinner which will be having in half hour mozzarella tomato and avocado for starter then sauteed potatoes 3 lamb chops and broccoli
Then will be having apple, orange, grapes and bannana an hour later (have to have my five a day fruit)
and then most likely a yogurt a lot later on.. bout it i think.

From that I think you need to eat a lot more protein, steak steak steak, chicken and protein shakes.
For me eating a large bowl of pasta a day as well seemed to speed up weight gain

Nobody has said yet but how many protein shakes should i have a day?
 
One protein shake counts as a meal, and you want to have about 5 or 6 meals a day

So when you get out of bed, halfway through the day or after a workout and before you go to bed, basically giving your body energy when it needs it

I was 9st 10 in july - august time, and since starting working out iv been taking protein shakes, eating loadsa pasta, cutting out crap food like deep fried stuff, geneally eating better food

I now weigh 10st 7, kinda hitting a wall just now and struggling to put on more weight

Im no expert at this though, The more experienced folk will no doubt set you in the right direction
