Microsoft want both Blueray and HD-DVD to fail...

Personally, I think M$ like to use a previous product as a test bed for the next product. I reckon they are getting their infrastructure in place now, and that the full thing will bear down on us with Xbox3 - much in the same way that Xbox was a testbed for live. Having a dissemination of competing formats in place will make it easier for M$ to tempt people onto downloads, rather than having to compete with an existing market monopolised format.

MS want Sony (and the PS3) to fail, (Im not sayiing that Sony dont wnat it the other way round, they probably do) - so I can fully understand them (MS)pushing HD-DVD as much as possible.

However as above physical media isnt going to die overnight - especially when downloading a full hidef film still takes a reasonably long time for the general population

As for saying someone is a pillock, its just not called for - he has a right to want his IP to be seen as much as possible in as good a quality as possible. His opinion is as valid as anyone on here. I enjoy a number of his films, and maybe they arent intellectual or anything, but they are good fun and some worthy of repeated viiewing imo

If we all had high speed connections, then I would embrace digital downloads, but currently we dont have the connection to download full high def films, as it would take far to long,

Both formats will be around for a while, as we dont have the infastructure to support it.

Its not up to MS wether it fails or not, seems like a stupid thing to say, MS had nothing to do with its development.

If he is so peeved he should have signed a similar contract that Speilburg did and mave his films come out on both HDVD and BR.

He was just peeved cause he cant get Transformers out on BR.
He has moaned about this before.

See the problem with him is that he was like a crybaby when the whole Paramount moving to HD-DVD issue surfaced. I've never seen someone sprout such utter garbage about the HD-DVD format in my life. It made me sad when he goes on about it being the better quality format. How given that both formats now use VC1? Oh wow, so BD is selling more. Then the following day he goes and apologises on his blog.

As much as I loved transformers and his previous films, I felt sad when I saw him whining like a child on the forum about how superior the 'unfinalised' format was.

MS probably do have enough power in the industry to make A N Other format carry on longer than it would normally - cause enough confusion and people will just wait rather than potentially plunging for the "wrong " format

Dont be ridiculous, very few people have the power Spielberg does - its only because of this his contract was even an option. Lucas and a handful of others are probably the select few that are able to do it. However good Bay is, he isnt anything like that successful (maybe not quite but similiar comparison would be a rollover lottery winner being compared to Schumacher in wealth - about a difference of 10 times conservatively)

Certainly true :)

I see where you are coming from - he was looking at potential sales being a 1/2 on the format the studio had chosen compared to the other format, "un-finalised" or not

I dont think im being ridiculous, but I have worded what i said before wrong.
He is basically miffed that he didnt get a similar deal.
Has anyone else hear of any other Directors bigger than him moaning?
Id persoanlly preferr to hear Ridley Scott's or James Camerons views on it.

As big as MS are in the PC world, I dont think they carry enough through to the Entertainment world, with the 360, or further concepts of it, being the only real tool they have in bringing a new format to the table.

I will state what I always state:

George Lucas and Stephen Spielberg will decide this format war, unless some studios jump ship in either direction, and I don't see that happening in the near future.

also worth pointing out that most people (the ones i know at least) import there hd dvds from other places outside europe as theres a greater choice and the price is a lot more competitive.

im sure this commonly known but just to add it anyway.

The latest 1up Yours Podcast claimed Blu Ray films are outselling HD-DVD at a 3 to 1 ratio in Europe. Anyone got some figures?

It's only recently i have started to buy Blu Ray discs....Mainly because their falling in price now.....I've also noticed quite a few places doing Xmas deals on them, 3 for the price of 2 or 3 for £40.....Which is laughable compared to DVD deals but oh well, C'est la vie :)

Digital downloads of movies is crap. Crap now, crap in 10 years time.

I want a shiny disc in a nice box that I can put on my shelf when I am not watching it and admire how good the box looks (Star Wars Trilogy, Alien Quadrology for example) and not some 0's and 1's

You realise the "1"s and "0" don't appear on your screen? Apparently you plug a cable between your computer/console and the telly and the "1"s and "0"s become pictures. I have heard of these cables (they have funny names I don't understand) but it is all a but confusing for me tbh.

whom does Lucas+Spielberg support?

Regardless of what studio eleased their films originally I believe they both had contracts that state they pick what format their movies go on and when.

So they are not bound by any studios etc in terrms of HD releases. (I am 100% certain this is the case for Spielberg, and 99% certain for George Lucas).

The ones and zeros can do a little dance for me if they want, they still don't come close to the joy of owning a physical item with all the effort gone into the packaging, artwork, et al.

What do you do when your mates come round? Show them you hard drive shelf with its collection of movies?

Some things need to be tangible.

Oh and :p to your sarcastic post! :D
