ok - so after testing all my XVIDs/DIVX's on my Dell 2407 - 1080p via VGA - I decided to buy a 2nd XBOX 360 (Falcon one ) as a media centre connected to my Plasma

so boot it up set to 720p (Plasma is not 1080p) and all my hi-def DIVX trailers etc work, but any SD DIVX files = NO - just black screen - after a lot of testing I've found the following

in VGA

@ 1080p = all DIVX/XVID files play fine

less than 1080p but greater than 640p = 50:50 work, most SD ones don't work - all ones that don't work = black screen - with sound

640p = all work BUT SD DIVX are output incorrect aspect ratio ... 1:2.35 looks more like 1:3 ... and 1:1.85 is not full widescreen .. so bascially everything is squashed

via HDMI

all fine ... all aspect ratios correct, no matter the res, the files play ....

so whats wrong with VGA ?

and when are you going to fix the bug Microsoft ?

Mark.

Read the main thread, its an issue with VGA and (seemingly) PAL encoded video files, NTSC ones work fine.

Only way around it at the moment if your using VGA is to set the 360 res to 640x480.

Hmm, it's only PAL encoded files I'm having my aspect ratio problem with... but that's over component, and worked fine before the update.

TBH mate, you would have been better off building a cheap PC as a media centre. The PS3/Xbox 360 is no match at all (DiVX codec or not) for a media centre PC. Anyone who think a Xbox 360/PS3 is better must be kidding themselves.

One of the reasons I got a Xbox 360 was for a Media base, but I ended up building a E2180+2gb+HD2600Pro instead as it frustrated me.
