Anyone of a decent way of connecting a laptop to a hifi separates system wirelessly. The roku soundbridge is the sort of thing I am looking for but I don't want it tied to particular applications. I just want ALL sounds from my pc to be played through the speakers as if they were just connected with a standard analogue cable. Any ideas? (Perhaps you could do this with soundbridge and a shoutcast application, I'm not sure. Neat ideas would be good though, thanks)

Checkout the Squeezebox3.
It will talk to your laptop via RF, and supports encryption including WPA to secure the connection.
It will stream most formats, including WAV, MP3 and FLAC (use FLAC if possible).
It has a pair of phono jacks on the back, just like a standard CD player, and will work with all normal amps.

The squeezebox definitely just as a gateway linked to no particular programs? Are there any cheaper alternatives that just do this, none of the other features?

Could try a wireless tv sender type thing, the usual scart to wireless and back adapters you can get for tuppence by random chinese manufacturers. Would do the job of all sounds going all the time, range and quality might be iffy though.

The Squeezebox requires you to run the Slimserver software on your PC. The good news is that it's free, works well and is regularly updated by Logitec.
