The *Official* Eve Online Thread

How are people finding the new graphics? Is the frame rate much lower than before with your current graphics card? I've head of people suffering huge drops of frame rates on Sisi where others said the frame rates have actually improved.

About the same for me, still playing with shadow settings though, that killed my FPS. :D

Extreme shadows: <10 fps.
High shadows: 10-40fps depending on number of ships
Normal shadows: 60fps (v-sync) regardless

That's on a 640MB 8800GTS @ 1680x1050

Shadows for the lose :\

If i had the full client installed already, and then it auto patches. Is that all i need to do? What's all this talk of the "Premium Client"? :confused:

nevermind, got it. The premium client means the graphics and can be downloaded seperately as an "Upgrade". The patch is just the regular patch, ships etc.

*Wets himself*

Edit:

New cloaking effect, you can't really get the full effect with a screenshot, but anyway...

The new cloaking effect made me drool but considering i get 20-35 fps in space with a 6800 GS 256mb gfx card. The graphics made me do a little sex wee :p

I love how the guns recoil when you fire them and the wallet update every 20 minutes with a list of ships you destroyed in those 20 minutes in the reason for the payment :)

gfx are nice, both clients can still work with each other. I can't work out whether the engines talk real well, both engines are old but have different models, or both engines are new with different models.

Shadow settings are good and all, but in space i think you'll have a hard time seeing them.

It's basically the same engine with some general enhancements and a few additions such as the DX9 effects tacked on. The new classic engine simply disables the additions while the premium engine enables them.

The DX10 Vista only engine due out next year is supposedly being built from scratch, so it will be more interesting to see how that turns out than how Trinity has.

this looks good but every time i jump to a new area my framerate halfs, after 4 jumps it was at 7fps, anyone else having this problem?

Err think your a little bit mistaken there. This is THE new engine. Well its half of it anyway, some effects etc are missing which will be patched in at a later date. The DX10 update later next year i have no idea about but they've been working on the patch they just released for like 2 years so its not just got stuff "tacked" on. Or at least i think thats how it is :confused:

***WARNING***

***READ ME BEFORE YOU RESTART***

A WARNING TO ANYONE WHO HAS INSTALLED THE PREMIUM PATCH - the patcher can erase the Windows XP Boot.ini file making your PC unable to boot into Windows. The patch has been taken down and CCP are looking into the issue. See the official notice here and the original bitching thread here.

To check if you have been affected, go to your C drive, click tools > folder options > view > check "Show hidden files and folders" and uncheck "Hide protected operating system files" > apply > ok - you should then see your boot.ini file in your C drives root. If it is not there, EVE has deleted it - DO NOT RESTART!

First, see if you have a backup. Go to C:\WINDOWS\pss and you should see a boot.ini.backup file. Copy it to your C root and rename it boot.ini and all should be fine. If not read on.

To create a new boot.ini file you need to go back into tools > folder options > view > uncheck "Hide extensions for known file types" > apply > ok - then create a new text file, edit it with the information below, save it, then rename it boot.ini. Be sure to say yes when it asks if you are sure you want to change the extension. Note that if you have multiple hard drives or partitons, the defaults below may be wrong. See this post for more help, or see below.

*DEFAULT* Boot.ini for XP Pro
Code:
[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect

*DEFAULT* Boot.ini for XP Home
Code:
[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect

*DEFAULT* Boot.ini for XP Media Center Edition
Code:
[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Windows XP Media Center Edition" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect

If you have already restarted and your PC will not boot, or if you do not know what your boot.ini should be, or if you remade it and it didn't work, you can fix it by booting from your XP CD then entering the repair console when prompted. Choose the corresponding number asked of you for your OS is on, normally it's #1. Then type: BootCfg /Rebuild then restart.

NOTE THAT I WILL NOT BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY FURTHER DAMAGE CAUSED TO YOUR SYSTEM BY FOLLOWING STUFF IN THIS POST!

I knew the patch went a little too smooth!

Hope this post helps someone :)

EDIT: They have posted an official post about it now, edited the link in. It also explains how you can check if you are affected and provides some steps towards fixing it.
