** The Official ATI 3870/3850 512/256mb Review/Overclocking Thread **

Yup it is tempting isn't it!! I can't believe that I'm actually thinking about crossfire stuff, now that this equipment is so cheap! (That will all change with R700 and D9E however :( ).

Got the 3870 Powercolor PCS edition coming (800Mhz core & 2400 GDDR4) with zalman style cooler, but no memory sinks :( on the way at Christmas, so will be looking to do some serious O/C'ing and seeing how far I can push this thing. I'll be looking for AT LEAST 900Mhz on the core, and hopefully 2600(1300Mhz) on the memory, and then see where we can go from there :) Might even give some of the volt mods a go if I'm feeling brave enough and go for 1Ghz on air and see what happens :D

Yeha I seen those ones, would have got one if I was quick enough tbh! :p but its a Sapphire one that i've noticed....I do have a student loan payment coming in on friday though, could be tempted ;) Only problem is do I just wait until they become cheaper still? or until more games out that I need the crossfire performance come out, ala crysis! there is never a right time to buy :p

Go buy a second one now.

im really tempted in adding 2 x 3870 but they never in stock :(

this way ill be buying the single card with 2 GPU's instead, on the begginin of next year, apparently.

Do people think that Audio/HDMI thingy is a useful feature on a graphics card?

It was also on a HD2900XT I had for a while but it bugged me, after I installed it my sound stopped working and on closer inspection I found that the HDMI woggemabob had made itself the default soundcard in WindowsXP so I changed it back to the X-FI.

What's it all about?

BW : It's just an HDMI pass through so you can have video going directly to you TV/Whatever on the correct connection without having to use suffer and not hear the original sound source. Prob best used when playing HD-DVD's/Blu-ray discs and your using your PC as a media/entertainment centre.

I just read something on a Dutch forum I was looking on and it made me thing if this is possible. If I buy a 3870 now, and in half a year buy a newer ATI graphics card, they can work together in crossfire? Like two different cards. One "older" 3870 and a newer "HD4800" or something ;)

possibly but the performance of the newer card will be downclocked to match that of the 3870.

Its useful to people that don't have a good sound card. I also have an xfi soundcard so its no use to me unless my sound card goes pop even then the onboard sound of my p5w dh deluxe should be pretty good also. I think when it takes over your sound card when you install drivers its a little like installing a new media player as it usually takes over the old players settings.

Well I've just purchased a 512mb 3850 for a very nice price....can anyone tell me if my MCW60 waterblock will fit?
