Good insurers for sporty cars?

Thats not a measure of how good an insurance company is, is it. Im with Sky and they are really cheap for my car, but you wont know how good an insurance company is until you have to make a claim. Just because they are cheap doesnt mean they are good.

I have the reassurance that they advertise on and insure some of the wildest and most expensive cars on passionford. Tony who is a senior partner in the company regularly replies to threads on insurance (including one I started when I was looking) on passionford. The cover is very, very good with an agreed value and like for like on mods, legal and european cover as standard and track options. I have also heard only excellent things about them.

I see what you mean regarding claiming, but I feel I can trust them. They are a modified specialist, and as such know the risk they are underwriting, unlike mainstream insurers who would use mods as a get out clause.

But horses for coursess, just because they have given me an excellent quote, doesn't mean they will be good for everyone. Sky refused to quote on the car I'm getting....

Slightly off topic, i managed to get a quote for an R34 Skyline GTR on moneysupermarket and it was only £2100.......which considering its a £30k car and im only 21 i didnt think it was too shabby!

A-plan wouldnt touch my car as it had been remapped! They say they specialise in modified vehicles....

Another vote for Greenlight, they quoted much lower than the others, are mod friendly, replacing like for like. When speaking to them on the phone, they knew what I was talking about when describing my mods.

Haven't had to deal with a claim with them though.

Tried Greenlight, they just gave me a generic "sorry, we can't quote you" reply. Maybe they only quote 25+ on group 17-20.

edit: just emailed them to ask why they can't quote me and got this:

"We are unable to quote this postcode sector at present. We do have another insurer that can quote but they require all drivers are in full time employment."

On telling them i'm a funded postgraduate student they seem to have changed their mind about my employment status and quoted me £972. Not bad :D

Really? Quite a few people on ScoobyNet are with A-Plan and most of them must be running 350+ hp with remapped ECUs.

A fair percentage of members on IMOC (MR2 forums) are with A-Plan too, and there aren't many members on there that haven't modified their cars...

Sky aren't supposed to be as competitive as they used to be.

I'd personally ring all of those stated and play them off against each other. Can't remember the amount of times Flux (I know, I know) said that "I'll just ring the underwriters one more time for you" and beat the other company's quote by 50 quid.
