Off Sick - Should I still pay child maintenance?

If it's a cash in hand, out of court arrangement, then I figure that the only comeback would be flak from your wife. Do you have any form of contract for the arrangement?

All that being said, the law is still likely to take her side, which I'm inclined to say is fair, but I'm not about to have that argument here.

Why does everything have to be done 'legally' nowadays. Can people not have a civial conversation anymore and sort things out between themselves without getting the law involved :(

If I was in your position I'd simply put off paying gas/elec or whatever and pay for your daughter. the gas/elec companies wont cut you off for a long time after they say they will. surely you can do 3 weeks.

That gives you a bad marking against your credit history though, not paying the ex has no such effect.

I'd just sit her down and be rational about it, you're clearly offering what you can, but I would insist that I would be paying back my arrears as soon as I could.

I would pay what I could afford at the time, then pay the rest back once I am paid. Can't see anyone having a problem with that since sooner or later you will have paid the full amount.

O.P.
I didn't mean to imply anything in my earlier post as to whether you should/would or have paid her, I wouldn't dream of it. I was merely passing on what they themselves told me (the CSA )
Of course personally i think any Fathers payments should reflect his Current circumstances & should go up & down accordingly.
Good Luck anyways :)

None at all.

My Daughter is old enough to know that I pay Maintenance for her & she see's me handing it over every week, which I like, she see's it for herself.

I'll go with the talk first approach, I'll give her a call assuming I've not been paid, to give her the bad news about this week, tomorrow.

As for arrears, she will get them, as soon as I'm back to work.

Downside of a job like mine, strong medication means you simply cannot work - My employers would'nt let me back even if I wanted to without notice from my GP that I'm ok.

He's the one who's signed me off for "four weeks minimum!" :(

Again, many thanks for the help. :)
