I'm just awaiting delivery of the rest of my parts. Now, I've had a quick look at the Freezer 7 and there's a thermal pad on the bottom of the heatsink, does this mean I don't need to apply thermal paste to the CPU?

Thanks in advance.

You don't need to, no. I got mine last week and promptly scraped it off and applied some Arctic Silver instead. Personal preference tbh.

Thanks for the reply. I'll do some testing on it first to see how it performs with the stuff that's already on.

My new system is pretty similar to yours, except I have a Q6600 and an Abit IP-35.

Is your 8800GTS the XFX one?

The paste which is already on is MX-1 which is slightly better than the AS5 as does quite a good job so i would advise leaving it on.

I have just received the same cooler and was going to leave the thermal pad on as I have heard its better than the arctic5 stuff.

I have however smudged it with my finger but hands were pretty clean so shouldnt have left any grease on it. going to fit it as is. If it doesnt give me the results I want I will wipe off and then apply some new stuff.

I think its MX-2 though not MX-1 (believe MX-1 is a hard drive enclosure).

leave the stock stuff on. Honestly, for the money there's not a better cooler. Unless you are rich I recommend that cooler to everyone.

I've installed this cooler today on my new Rig, the sheer size of it is quality for the price. Disappointed that it had compound on it though as I bought compound from OcUK in anticipation that I'd need it, but hey - better safe than sorry (Saturday delivery price wouldn't have been good lol) :)

Yes, for the bux, its a great cooler.

I have to admit that you can get better... a lot better, but not for the price.

I have 3 of them.

The 64, ( thats on the x2 4400) the 64 Pro ( On the Opty 175 ) and the S775 one ( on the Q6600 ) and all 3 are doing their jobs nice enough.

When clocking like a bugger though, they start to struggle so case cooling is also a vital must but the CPU is fine under normal and low end clocking use.

10c?

Thats a lot.

I found that the Stock cooler on the FX55 is about exactly on par with the Freezer64.

I forget the temps now, but when I swapped my FX55 cooler with the Freezer64, it was the very same temp.

I stil have them, so I could I suppose have another re-try, but the matter of whether to use the FX55 cooler or the freezer64 ( and indeed the Freezer Pro ) was all down to visuals as they performed exactly the same.

Of course a stock lower end cooler is a whole different ball game.

A Sempron cooler for example got the system beeping at me before the desktop came up
