Bored at work so:

As the title really.

Just wondering what lyrics people remember that just seem to stick.

Lyrics with meaning, that touch you, or you just like for the hell of it.

Bad Religion - Do What You Want said:
I'll believe in god when one and one are five

Couldn't think of anything better atm, great for a thread starter ¬_¬

The Toasters - Talk Is Cheap said:
Talk to me about unity, that only works when the beers are free.

If you can guess the tune you have good taste!
"I stood by the river that ran red with shame,
I stood in the killing fields where death hath no name,
I stood with my brothers & awaited the flood..."

Dire Straits - Telegraph Road; such a fantastic (yet melancholic) "story" of a song.

My favourite Floyd one would be from The Division Bell:
"The rain fell slow, down on all the roofs of uncertainty;
I thought of you, and the years of all the sadness fell away from me."

The semi-inspirational one for me has been a Knopfler one:
"You want to smile those tears away, now don't you cry;
You want to know what I say? I say never say die."

Every single word from Loudon Wainwright's "Hard Day on the Planet":

The dollar went down and the President's sick,
“Who’s in charge, now?” I don’t know, take your pick.
A new disease every day and the old ones are coming back
Things are looking kind of gray, like they’re going to get black

Don’t turn on the TV, don’t show me the paper
Don’t wanna know why he got kidnapped or why they all raped her,
I wanna go on vacation ‘till the pressure lets up
But they keep hijacking airplanes and blowing them up

(Chorus)
It’s been a hard day on the planet
How much is it all worth?
It’s getting harder to understand it
Things are tough all over on earth.

It’s hot in December and cold in July
When it rains it pours out of a poisonous sky
In California the body counts keep getting higher
It’s evil out there, man that state is always on fire.

Everyone has a system, but they can’t seem to win
Even Bob Geldorf looks alarmingly thin
I got to get on that shuttle get me out of this place
But there’s gonna be warfare up there in outer space

(Chorus)

I’ve got clothes on my back and shoes on my feet
A roof over my head and something to eat
My kids are all healthy and my folks are alive
You know, it’s amazing but sometimes I think I’ll survive

I’ve got all of my fingers and all of my toes
I’m pretty well off I guess, I suppose
So how come I feel bad so much of the time?
A man ain’t an island—John Dunn wasn’t lying

(Chorus)

It’s business as usual; some things never change
It’s unfair, it’s tough, unkind and it’s strange
We don’t seem to learn; we can’t seem to stop
Maybe some explosions would close up the shop

You know, maybe that would be fine: we would be off the hook
We resolved all our problems, never mind what it took
And it all would be over, finito, the end
Until the survivers started up all over again .........

It's been a hard.........

Saw him live a few months back and he sung it again, with some modern twists......Was a fantastic and slightly eery experience!

A lot of his songs are extremely touching though - mostly the family ones :)

I Wish I nver Saw the Sunshine - Beth Orton
Solved - Unbeliveable Truth
My Immortal - Evanescence

These touched me so deeply that I cant pick out of the 3 but the lyrics just seared themselves into my mind and heart.

[EDIT]
If you can guess the tune you have good taste!
"I stood by the river that ran red with shame,
I stood in the killing fields where death hath no name,
I stood with my brothers & awaited the flood..."

That reminds me of megadeath for some reason

Waking up with an 8.2 when it seemed like the easiest thing to do
When someone said "Here's one for you"
Mouth's so dry and I just spit ash
In a hole in my pocket full of wasted cash
But that's alright it was just bad stash
Jump, inside, he said, I tried
"I never met a junkie that I didn't like"
Said he
And who am I to disagree?
