This will be my first overclock,I hope. Please can I have some help. The facts:I have a Hp 3031.cpu: AMD 4000+"LIVE" 2.1GHz Socket AM2.memory:2GB DDR2-SDRAM(666MHz)motherboard:M2NC51-AR(hematite xl).VISTA 32 bit.Graffix:radeon x 1600 pro.I have read the biginners guide and plenty more, but now I want to go for it.I have installed rightmark clock utility as a start, and what I would like to know is:what next?Is there a freeware program that I can use to adjust the fsb?If not are there any guides about or good old fashion advice would help.At the moment it feels like i'm applying to the magic circle, but I would really like become an "overclocker".With your help, this just could happen. All advice/views or comments welcome.Thanks.

Result!Got it up to 2.54 GHz from 2.1 GHz with ntune,very nice.Now what I want is...just a bit more...maybe nearer 3. mmm

Phew, found your OP a bit hard to read having few spaces etc.
I take it you can't Overclock from BIOS then? Is it locked out?

I think pushing 3Ghz will be a real challenge. Either due to limitations of the chip, or the mothernboard. I only managed a 333Mhz overclock on an AMD system I had (6000+).

As Ace Modder points out - if the system boots at 2.54, it doesn't mean that it's a stable overclock. You'll need to stress test it overnight using Prime95 program (google it). If it passes that without showing errors after about 8 hours, then you're good to go really.

If it fails, more tweaking will be needed - maybe increasing the voltage to your RAM or CPU, all depends on the individual system.

Hope that helps.

I ran the Ntune course tune (20 mins)followed by their stress test(10 mins)been online all day while burning some discs no probs, rightmark gives core temp at 36c at 6% cpu load.cool and quite still in use.cant get into BIOS,appears locked, few options there.this is what I got.Ref clock HTT 254.362 HT multi 5.0x HT bus freq 1271.824 CPU multi 10.0x
CPU core freq 2543.649 Memory bus freq 847.035(DDR2) PCI-E bus 2500.000 PCI bus 33.000,memory timings unchanged.I will run a more intense stress test, but it does seem good and stable so far(fingers crossed)!!!I think this may be the limit an the moment,I ran the fine tune but it hung and crashed at 24% increase.I dont know how far these can go as this is my first attempt.prime95,I'm on my way. Thanks for that.

ran stress test, all sweet!I think the memory is holding it back, I have: 2x 1Gb DDR2-SDRAM, running at 847.035 MHz, can't get voltage reading at present. It is made by Hyundia rated at 1.8Volts.Any comments or advice, please.

Install Orthos and run a stress test for 8.5hrs. Otherwise your computer might be unstable and - as you won't know about it - it may well blow up as a result.

I can make my computer boot at 2.4GHz, but it crashes when I try to run an application like Outlook Express.

CHECK FOR STABILITY. And please make use of the space bar when adding punctuation - it's pretty confusing trying to read your posts.
