Update to Weekend Special - OcUK 8800 GTX 768MB Only £204.99+VAT (£240.86 Inc. VAT)!!

If you use a computer for everything BUT games, then £240 can get you a computer more than powerful enough to run most applications. My computer I work on at the moment is worth about £200 at the moment, it runs 3DS Max, Photoshop, Premiere, Poser, Office 2007 applications, just about anything I throw at it really.

Good deal though, shame i haven't got spare cash.

Obviously. But this thread applies to people who PLAY GAMES!

Oh shut up. This is called a discussion forum. This section is General Discussion and it is my opinion that spending £240 on a video card to save £38 is ludicrous.

I did this by pointing out you could buy a computer for this price and if you want to game then an Xbox360 is cheaper and will still run "the latest games" in a couple of years.

I take your post as a personal insult.

Thats becuase you are not a PC Gamer. It's my opinion that spending £240 on tennis equipment is ludicrous but then, I dont play tennis..

Agreed. Sometimes I wonder how some people on here even find OcUK.

always love your posts man, u put a lot of things in a way anyone can understand

I'm not entirely sure what I have at the moment, I can never remember unless I find the OcUK receipts! Device manager says NVIDIA GeForce 7800 GTX (and I know it's an XFX brand). Not sure how much ram it has though.

I play Team Fortress 2 mostly on a 2405 @ 1920 x 1200 and get between 25-50 (depending if I'm looking at a wall or fighting..lol)
Would I see much improvement with this, or is it a bit of a waste of money?

AMD 64 3000+
ASUS A8N-SLI
2gb ram

Actually you are wrong. I am a PC gamer, in so much as I play games on the PC including some of the new ones like HL2 EP2 and so on. :p

I just don't believe in:

a: Paying the price premium for the latest "must have" top of the range product when the next one down does the job almost as well and costs (normally) a fair amount less.

b: Buying something "must have" even though I don't really need it because I can save a massive £38

This applies to non-pc hardware as well. I don't see the point of spending thousands on a carbon fiber framed bike when a aluminum one will do the same for a lot less.

Anyway, I don't need the extra few frames per second nor do I need the bragging rights of having the latest kit.

I believe it was intended as one.

Then he is more of an idiot than me. Calling somebody an idiot for expressing their opinion!

It's not the latest must have product. It's been on the market for over a year and was originally circa £400! At £240 it's hardly an extravagent expense, is it?

Your ipod is not worth £5,000 though because you can get them anywhere else for £100.

Is that a trick question ? If so pitty de fool, if not eer yes as long as your mainboard is PCI-E, TF2 on my 8800GTX runs at way over 100fps easy, but then I have a core 2 duo

If all you play is games like TF2 then you could just get a 8800GT 512MB - only a few fps behind the GTX but much cheaper if you find one in stock :)

The price drop on a GTX is great but it's too little too late to drop the price (not OCUK fault of course since everywhere these are still way over £200) with the new GTS coming and the GT currently out - they clock faster, are cheaper and in real world gaming perform the same.
