now gibbo has lowerd the price off the gtx very tempting to order one,but would i realy need it on a 20inch at 1650x1050.will keep this new card for at least intill next xmas.

I'm thinking the same.

Would have the exact same pc as you only 22" TFT instead.

Trying to find out more in that thread ATM before deciding.

I'd get the GTX, some people say you don't really need it at 1680x1050 but at that price you may as well get it just incase you want to get a bigger monitor later on.

There is not much of a difference between the two, but Crysis performs just that little bit better on GTX.

This really has thrown a spanner in the works. A GTX for £240, thats a steal. I am in the same position too, I will be buying all my new parts for my new rebuild next week. I was going to buy the Zotac 8800GT, then I thought no, hang on the new 8800GTS is out on the 11th (hopefully) and now this morning a read the GTX has been slashed to £240, the logic tells me to go with the GTX, for that price you simply have to consider it. But it is old technology compared to the lastest offerings from Nvidia, and the 1 year warranty does put me off a bit. I think I will still purchase my new parts next week and hang on a little longer for the graphics card. I am eager to see how the new GTS does in comparison to the GT and the GTX, then I will makes me choice.

Its old technology but so what? There arent any games out requiring the so called new technology. A GTX will handle any game as well, if not better than a 'cutting edge' GT or the upcoming GTS for that matter, and that includes Crysis.

At this price, if you game at high rez 1920 or above, it should be considered.

Edit: But waiting a bit as you say is probably the wisest move.

Definitely considering it myself, running a 24" Dell at 1920*1200.
Really wish there had been more GTS benchmarks released last week, would have helped make my mind up easier!

Im waiting, I think a GT would serve me fine but Im not paying the inflated prices.

GTX will only get cheaper I reckon, and lets see what the GTS can do.

However if I had the money right now i'd probably snap up a GTX at that price.

I'd still recommend a GTX over a GT as the GT will never have the same performance that the GTX has, at ANY resolution.

I still find it quite surprising also, seeing as the GTX has been out for over a year yet still it's the leader in GPU's apart from the ultra and at a sensible price (£50 give or take between GT/GTS/GTX).

I don't understand the hype of the GT/GTS's no longer - they're new that's about it but it's just like the new Aston Martin DBS, or whatever one was tested on Top Gear a couple of weeks ago. The DB7/older models still can outperform the new technology/designs.

The G92 core is faster.
Expect the new GTS to be around this price bracket IMO.
The 8800GT should and is available for £160 - thats still a £80 difference, about right.

Fact is, the difference architecturally between the GTX and the New GT is small, other than the GT has a smaller memory bus, less Shaders (abeit clocked higher), is on a smaller process and some extra texturing address units, that really don't seem to make a difference. Face it the GTX has aged rather well and will continue to do so, because it is a powerhouse. The GT I think, won't age quite so well.

Lets not forget the GTX also has the added advantage of more memory, and you need all you can get with higher AF/AA values along with higher resolutions and ULTRA texture settings in modern titles.

Get the GTX, it beats all the other cards minus the ULTRA, the GT is just a slightly cut down version & if you want to play crysis then you need the best you can afford!

G92 core is faster? Dont look it from the benchmarks compared a GT to a GTX, the GTX even beats the GTS in a few benchmarks.

G92 isn't faster, maybe on paper but not in real world. Nothing is beating the GTX yet and it looks as if the new GTS may be on par with the GTX if not a little behind.
