Weekend Football *SPOILERS* 8-9th December

baz my comment wasnt about the carragher sub, more the other two. if i was a liverpool fan id be disgraced that the manager threw the towell in with 20 minutes to go

Maybe you shouldn't have quoted somebody talking about the Carra sub then because it certainly didn't come across like what you've said above.

Steven Gerrard is physically at his peak and I just don't see why he couldn't play a full game on Saturday and another on Tuesday, most of the top players do this in Europe and Gerrard is no different. If Rafa wants to make sure he is rested then surely in games against Newcastle and Bolton when the game was done and dusted at half time he should take him off then to keep him fresh if there are any fitness concerns. Taking him off when you are losing against Reading is a strange one and I don't think the game was over at all. If your lot had scored a goal and had 10 mins left I feel you could have got a point out of it but to take Gerrard off was like throwing the towel in really. Even if you look a bit further ahead in the month you have games against Wigan and Derby and Gerrard can be completely rested in those matches. In such a crunch week for Liverpool you don't want to mess around with anything and I feel Rafa is trying to be too clever here. That said as you mention if your lot qualifty for the CL, beat the mancs and we lose to Chelsea then Rafa will be a genius according to the scousers ;)
Like i said i would have kept him on and it did seem a case of cutting our losses, accepting that we're unlikely to get anything and making sure he's ready for Marseille and then Utd, not just rested but also not picking up a knock, which i hope Torres hasn't after that Sonko challenge.

Again like i said above, today wasn't a make or break where as Tuesday's is and realisticly a draw was the very best possible for us so its not as suprising a sub, also he came off for a very attacking player so not quite throwing the towell in.

only joking, i hate liverpool united games, i'll be getting tense all week about it. talk about the game i most hate losing.

i don't think nokkonwud suffers from carragher jealousy though? what is that exactly?

lol talking to yourself dan?

i was messing with nokkon, despite talking sence most of the time he some how has a mental block regarding Carra and also Ronaldo's dives ;)

Would anyone else agree with me that 25/1 about Spurs to get relegated is looking quite big, the way they're playing? City at home, Arsenal away and Pompey away won't come easily for them, so might be able to trade at lower odds after those games?

heh, i was just checking myself. i don't want to say anything or be too cocksure regarding next weeks match in case it goes very wrong.

on your other points carraghers been a very good servant for you and deserves respect for that. i do think ronaldo has cut a lot of the diving out of his game though he is still ocasionally prone to it.

Spurs won't go down, i know its been said before but they are too good to go down.

I certainly don't think he's one of the worst around but if you believe some people he doesn't dive at all and hasn't for a long time

Look at it like this - drop this game, have players a bit fresher for CL on tues, no new injurys resulting from today, progress to knockout stages, keep manager's job, no fuss from owners, more money avail in transfer window in jan.

New signings in jan = stronger squad = less chance of dropping points in second half of season.

Most of us are a bit more peeved at just how bad the setup was today, its a fairly rational and justified move with the subs, although Id have maybes taken off sissoko, and done it earlier when it was 2-1 and pushed someone like Babel on who will be a predator in the box, or force something to happen. Could have been the young lads chance to shine, he also wouldnt be a worry for needing to be rested etc, since he only makes sub appearances.

just watching motd now and i've got to say there was no way i thought it was a pen against liverpool but the little thing thye did at the end suggests it was. didn't bloody look it at the time thbough.

not convinced with that, that angle will naturally look in the box, the other angles quite clearly show first contact was made a good yard outside the box.

i don't think you could say it was a good yard out but it did look outside the box to me. that's why i was surprised by the motd thing. maybe it was misleading.

ay, to say it was in the box is just plain mad if you'v seen more than 1 angle! You win some you lose some though, like i said earlier, we got a penalty from a free-kick position wrongly a few weeks ago, so it all evens out really(unless you play at old trafford:p)

I agree that decisions will generally even themselves out in terms of numbers but whether the importance of decisions even themselves out im not too sure. Like you say we got 1 the other week but at that time we were winning and only a few mins to go where as today was the opening (usually the most important) goal.

Actually i hear fifa are thinking of amending the rules on fouls and penalties to clarify to referees that htey ca't give a foul against united at old trafford.
should stop any talk of bent refs if it's clearly set out in the rules ;)

if not it bloody should have been and it would just go to show the pro liverpool anti united agenda in the fa ;)

* difficult to type on vario when drunk so typods probable.

Arsenal have named an unchanged lineup for the match against Boro, perhaps surprising given the lacklustre performance against Newcastle.
