baz my comment wasnt about the carragher sub, more the other two. if i was a liverpool fan id be disgraced that the manager threw the towell in with 20 minutes to go
Maybe you shouldn't have quoted somebody talking about the Carra sub then because it certainly didn't come across like what you've said above.
Like i said i would have kept him on and it did seem a case of cutting our losses, accepting that we're unlikely to get anything and making sure he's ready for Marseille and then Utd, not just rested but also not picking up a knock, which i hope Torres hasn't after that Sonko challenge.Steven Gerrard is physically at his peak and I just don't see why he couldn't play a full game on Saturday and another on Tuesday, most of the top players do this in Europe and Gerrard is no different. If Rafa wants to make sure he is rested then surely in games against Newcastle and Bolton when the game was done and dusted at half time he should take him off then to keep him fresh if there are any fitness concerns. Taking him off when you are losing against Reading is a strange one and I don't think the game was over at all. If your lot had scored a goal and had 10 mins left I feel you could have got a point out of it but to take Gerrard off was like throwing the towel in really. Even if you look a bit further ahead in the month you have games against Wigan and Derby and Gerrard can be completely rested in those matches. In such a crunch week for Liverpool you don't want to mess around with anything and I feel Rafa is trying to be too clever here. That said as you mention if your lot qualifty for the CL, beat the mancs and we lose to Chelsea then Rafa will be a genius according to the scousers![]()
Again like i said above, today wasn't a make or break where as Tuesday's is and realisticly a draw was the very best possible for us so its not as suprising a sub, also he came off for a very attacking player so not quite throwing the towell in.
