right i will be building my brother a new pc but i have came to a bit of a problem. i have already bouhgt a motherboard for him, its a asrock alivesata2 glan which i got here from the ocuk b grade section for £18 (i got this one because i have it and am finding it reliable, and it was so cheap). what i would have liked to have done now was to buy him a 2180 and oc it a lot, but i am thinking about the 4000x2 because with a overclock the other higher up models speeds are achievable with it and phenom is bugged and way too expensive for the budget.

anyway to the point, on a website there is a 3850 with an attracive price that i can't resist so with the 4000x2 how far shall i overclock it/ can overclock it on the mobo. most likely it will be getting a 19" monitor @ 1440 x 900 res which i hear is more cpu bound, is it worth getting a 20" instead so it is more gpu bound, or can i overclock it to get rid of the bottleneck?

i would also like to know the same thing for my system, it is exactly the same except i have a 4200x2 and will be getting a 8800gt, i have 2gb ram 3 gb soon, same with my brother when i build his pc.

sory if this does not make any sense :)

no one has an ideas?

Your question is vague, a bottleneck for gaming?

Your system is not the best system but then not a bad system. you have a dual core cpu which as you've already said you will be over clocking. You are/have purchased a HD3850 gfx card which for the price is an awesome card and will enable you to max out most games and still get a reasonable fps.

Now the ram if you're going to upgrade get 4gb along with vista. I'm assuming that would be ddr400 that you have, if so then i really would advise on a new mobo/ram combo to bring things upto date.

So get some more ram, overclock the cpu & gf card and enjoy games.

sorry if i made no sense.

my brothers complete specs will be:

asrock alivesata2 glan
3gb ddr2 800 ram (ocz platinum revision 2)
vista hp 32bit
Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 Pro
19" monitor
4000x2
ocz stealth xtream 600w

what i would like to know is

1) is it worth overclocking the 4000x2 for gaming with a 3850? (have also found a x1950 pro for a good price, i will check which is a better deal in the graphics section).

2) how far can i overclock on the Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 Pro and will the motherboard restrict how far i can overclock?

3) what is a nice overclock for the 4000x2?

i want to know the same about my computer but i have a 4200x2 and will be getting a 8800gt instead.
