** The Official ATI 3870/3850 512/256mb Review/Overclocking Thread **

Seems pretty damn good for an x2 :) (but Heck.. that's me, never owned one or looked at the scores for one lol)

Be happy in the knowledge if you had a quad core, you instantly add about 2k to your score giving you about 15K which would be pretty good :D

Hi. I am overclocking a graphic card for the first time ever. It is obviously an Ati, a 3850. It just a question of going to the ati settings, click on the lock to open it, just move the sliders as desired, test, accept and OK?

I have been all this afternoon learning to overclock my core2 duo. Why is overclocking the GPU that easy?

Why is overclocking the GPU that easy?

I think it's because the way the graphics card interfaces with the rest of the computer is fixed. It's going through a 16 * PCI-E slot, can't change that, it doesn't have multipliers like a CPU, can't change that, you can't add extra voltage to it (without modifying the bios), can't change that, etc.

Just to let you know as i couldnt find any decent info, even from abit / via forums:
HD3870 works, dropin and go, on the AX8 (rev2) - PCIe 1.0a.
sadly, im now cpu limited :(

HIS HD3870XT - koolance gpu180 fits fine, currently ati-tool artifact testing @48c @860/1300 (stock ramsink)
this thing run SO MUCH cooler than my X1800XT, power draw loaded is down something like 50w

opps, oh yeah 05, thought it was 06, and was gonna say that's a pretty good score lol. Yeah, your score sucks mate hehe (just messing). Can't really tell you why though. Maybe your CPU limited?

im a bit scared of getting a 3870, had a few problems with ram and my dfi lanparty Nf4 ultra D, can anyone think of any compatibilty problems that spring to mind?

i think these results below show that these cards although not quite as fast on their own can start to shine in crossfire. i also think the ATI cards are as good if not slightly better in dx10 than nvidia and it's only in some older dx9 games with 4xaa that the ATI loses ground. look @ UT3-COJ-QW results ...they speak for themselves.

when you're hitting 100fps in HL2 1920x1200 4xaa/16xaf do you really need 110 or 120 fps for a better experience?

don't think anyone who bought 38xx series cards should feel they did the wrong thing @ all :);)

Thats a huge score! I should imagine any game that supports crossfire will fly!

Now marscay, can you answer this question about the built in audio/HDMI thing (I've already asked twice but no one has answered lol!)

What happens when you have a CROSSFIRE setup? you then would have *two* of them HDMI audio thingies?

Do you have to install them both?

I had 2 2900's and never had to install even one of the hdmi doofer dangles. Can only install them via the software on the disc, if you dont use that then they dont install. Not sure if it shows up in device manager as a component missing software or not though, don't think it did with mine at least.

Huh? you have two HD3870's? have you not installed the cards onboard HDMI sound card then? (both of them, one on each card?).

I don't recall installing twice with my X fire setup, and I dont use the hdmi thing anyways

It did mess up my onboard sound tho till I re-selected in in windows audio devices :)

as you can see in the 06 database its all running tickety boo and scoring over 15k with an unassumingly mild overclock on a dual core
