After reading the thread about which console people would get rid of, PS3 or 360, I noticed a lot of comments about the PS3 controller. Now, I was interested to know, why do people dislike it so much?

Personally I have no problem with it, if I had to choose between the 360's and the PS3's I would say neither - I would much rather have the main body of the 360 one (inc. rumble), with the in-built re-charge of the PS3 and the PS3's joysticks (they feel more fluid for me).

Scort.

They're far too light, the analogue sticks feel very flimsy (very different from DualShock 2) and the bottom triggers suck.

I haven't posted in the other thread and i do prefer the 360 controller. The PS3 one is ok but it doesn't have enough weight in the hands for me but maybe the rumble version will add a little more :)

Well for one, the charge lead is absolutely pathetically short. I hope sony dont expect people to sit 1m away from their 40 inch bravia tv's just because their controllers have ran out of battery.

It also feels so cheapy, which is also pathetic given the price you have to pay for them. Even sneaky sony couldnt be bothered slipping in some weights, it just doesnt hold well in my hands.

The six axis in my opinion is also a waste of time and the trigger buttons, my gawd, dont get me started on them!

Sony needs to admit it made a mistake with the controller 10 years ago and swap the dpad and left analogue stick around. I've never really got on with its position.

I don't have much problem with the PS3 pad (well it's pretty much just the PSOne pad ;))

I would prefer the controller to be a bit bigger and heavier though since it feels really cheap and light at the moment. I also prefer the Xbox/Xbox360s pads with regards to the position of the analogue sticks. Back when the Dual Shock pad was first released, the analogue sticks were in the correct position since most games used the D-Pad, but now I really think they should have swapped the DPad and analogue stick.

Mainly its those awful triggers that curve the wrong way and send me slipping off the pad and/or trying to claw it like a crab just to play a game. Would have liked the boomerang version for the extra length those sides had as well tbh. And yes flappy sticks compared to other controllers.

All of the above plus rubber buttons and lightweight triangle/square/x/o compared to Xbox's tactile ABXY.

I much prefer the PS3 controller over the 360's tbh. There were a few things I liked about the 360 controller, but I didn't get on with the position of the left analogue stick, as it made my thumb ache after a while, and the D-pad was just beyond crap imo.

Poor analogue - the comparably large deadzone has long been a valid criticism of the Dual Shock (I can't think of another first party stick that is as unprecise) - and poor placement of the analogue sticks. The pad was designed when most games still used the d-pad, hence the d-pad being in the more natural position.

Apparently the new Dual Shock 3 have improved the deadzone - we'll have to wait and see.

The controller feels horrible, way too light and flimsy

Also the triggers are pants, feels like you're going to slip off all the time

Too light, too small, crap sticks, crap triggers, crap buttons, crap d-pad and left stick position.

I keep saying this, you will never be able to please everyone, I thought the 360 pad was brilliant, and I think the PS3 pad is brilliant now (especially the DS3) there are pro's and con's to each.

What it boils down to is getting used to one or the other, if you mainly use your 360 your going to struggle on the PS3 pad and vice versa.

Same with Mice, I hated Logitech and Razer mice when I was a PC Gamer, even though they were very highly regarded in the gaming community, I had to stick with Microsoft Mice because I became so used to them.

Arguing over which console has the best pad is silly imo.

The d-pad isn't so bad. If you want the most awful d-pad in the history of d-pads, you just have to look at the 360!

agree, no good for street fighter style games what so ever, lol. Someone mention rubber buttons also, thats just the start and select buttons on the six-axis. The sticks on the six-axis have a wider movement arc to the outside edge compared to the 360 one hence the larger dead zone, but for me i have no difficulties in using either, although i do prefer the placement of left stick on the 360. Only major flaw is the bottom outside triggers, should be concave - but saying that it hasn't really hampered anything i played apart from maybe being a tad annoyed when you have to keep it pressed down on say driving games like Motostorm, its fine for using it in for firing guns ect, ect. I find the 360 wireless controller to be abit on the heavy side though and make my hands sweaty - something i've not had an issue with on the six-axis, and lastly i've noticed no difference in the buttons on either, they are just that buttons, you press them, lol

It's really not, it's simple ergonomics.

I see what you're saying about getting used to a certain layout/controller/mouse, but to say the PS3 controller wouldn't benefit from a design change is just plain wrong.

360 pad is just the best pad ever really apart from a dodgy d-pad, its the perfect design and I really can't see how it can be bettered, I bet MS are loving the amount of sales they get from the PC gamers too as its probably the best pad for PC gaming too.

Not played a PS3 that much, but what most say here I found true, too light, feels cheap and the left stick is in the wrong place, sure it was fine 10 years ago but even the S controller on the Xbox bettered the Sony pad. I still can't believe they have not added proper triggers. Maybe they will with the DS4 :D

Not sure why you seem to think sharing opinions means arguing? If we all thought the same then it would be very boring and we would all have 360's :D Plus I think the controller is a very important part of the gaming experience, who can forget the pain in our hands brought about by that monster pad MS originally gave us with the Xbox :D

In your opinion though, a lot of people are happy with the PS3 controller, myself included, I was happy with the Sixaxis and AM happier with the DS3, I was also a very big fan of the 360 controller, they are just different is all.
