3850 vs x1950 pro price vs preformance

probably 256mb one benched, i nabbed those links of someone elses post on this forum, from the looks of the layout id say that they are from firingsquad.
have a mosey on over and see if you can find anything.

Well here are some more benches which show the 256mb 3850 doing quite a bit better than the X1950 Pro

If you overclock the 3850 to xt speeds which it can do it should be a good bit quicker than the 1950pro. Not sure on how the 512 gddr3 will affect it compared with the gddr4 on the xt though.

I could have swore the 2900pro was a lot faster than the x1950pro, well you learn something new every day, cheers mav. :)

your right about the 2900pro being quicker than the x1950pro, just had a look on toms hardware and anandtech, the 3dmark scores for 2900pro are a bucket load higher than the x1950pro. but as we all know 3dmark is not the be all and end all of gfx card performance.

either way, the 3850 is not slower than the x1950pro, and the 3850 also has hd video acceleration and dx10 so its deffo worth the extra 25 quid over the x1950pro.

The difference between GDDR3 and GDDR4 is that GDDR4 clocks much higher at a lower voltage, so realistically the GDDR3 probably won't hit the 3870's stock speed.

Well, once I get my 3850 and start clocking I hope the results are better than those first benchies. I'll post up some benches vs my old x1900 @ 750/865

Yeah it's worth getting the 3850 over the 1950 Pro, but it's not really worth upgrading from a 1950 Pro to a 3850 unless you really want dx10 for some reason.

you getting 256 or 512mb one?

do you have games like DIRT, TDU and CRYSIS to run some tests on?

I'm getting the 512mb one....I'll benchmark DiRT, Crysis, UT3, 3dmark06, Lightsmark.

So should be an interesting comparison: stock x1900, overclocked x1900, stock 3850, overclocked 3850....both 512mb cards... All tests will be done with atitraytools to max quality and 6x AA, 16x AF. And with the same 7.11 drivers of course

hmm Crysis is being really gay. I just get tons of artifacting no matter what clock I put my x1900.

Even did a driver reinstall with driver sweeper and reinstalled the crysis demo

well unfortunately I can't get Crysis to work. It's not a problem with my x1900xt because it did this with my x1900gt as well. So I won't have any crysis benchmarks.

I'd like to do some CoD4 benchmark but I can't figure out how to run a timedemo. There's a timedemo command in the console but it doesn't do anything.

Be interested to see what you guys get. The 3850's an impressive card. I'm only 35 points off your 1900XT's score gurusan and that's with my e6300 @ stock vs your q6600 @ 3.65ghz.

You'll not be dissappointed - plus you're getting the 512mb version (mines only a 256mb version).

I had problems clocking using ATiTool with CCC running in the background as it caused artefacts and reset. These were at low clocks too so it seems to be instability caused by the programs clashing.

Just clocking through CCC i have the card @ 770/999. Full load temps don't push past 90c with the cooler running inaudibly. :)

Well i can't figure out how to save a replay in DiRT or make a timedemo.....how to review sites get benchmarks on these games?
