So my stepdaughters boyfriend is getting a Wii from his parents for Xmas.
We've decided to get him a game but I don't have a clue when it comes to Wii games.
They are getting him the new resident evil game so we've been beated to that one.
I've quizzed him about the type of games he likes but he's been quite vague.
I know he's into skateboards (well he was when he was younger) so what are peeps view on Tony Hawk's Proving Ground?
I'm thinking perhaps a decent FPS shooter so views on these would be helpful as well please.
I'm up for any suggestions but I think I'll go with what Wii users suggest is the best option.

Metroid Prime 3 if he likes shooters. It's excellent, although isn't an FPS as such: FPS viewpoint, excellent FPS controls, but not tons of enemies and lots of exploration. He'll know about it when there is a fire-fight because it'll be almost set piece and the bosses are usually fairly huge. It dominates my weekend at present.

It'll probably be easier to pick up than Mario Galaxy, which is also an excellent recommendation.

Umbrella Chronicles if you think he likes shooters
Zelda or Mario, or give him a voucher and let him decide, but give him our recommendations before he chooses.

Dont see how a game that offers no challenge and done in a short game as the best.

120 Stars in 1 day?
Utter rubbish.

Now if you mean you got 60+ stars and beat the final boss then you're not qualified to talk about anything being that... you know... you never actually finished the game.
Go and try Luigi's Purple coin level and then re-evaluate it being "that easy". It is certainly not a hardcore game in terms of difficulty but it is in no way "easy" in the latter stages.

That said, what does difficulty have to do with quality? Go read the reviews... best reviewed game this year and the best console game this year in my and many other people opinion.

Think you will find I beat the boss and saw the credits pretty much the end.

Was a big let down. :( Also thought it was repetitive, levels were bland and the controls mess up sometimes when running around the planets the size of a penny.

SO just like i said, you didn't actually finish the game, you just beat the final boss. Get close to 120 stars and then say it is easy... (at which point you will be lieing but never mind).

Repetitive and bland levels? I don't believe you have even watched an advert for this game, let alone played it!
Of the faults that can be noted with Galaxy, repetitiveness and bland levels is simply not one of them. By any measurement that you can think of, this is simply not the case.
It's like a stock opinion from someone that needs to find faults with a game they have barely touched... yet in this case it simply doesn't work.

@Lordmike - if you really did do as Kamakaze is suggesting and just did the bare-minimum to get to the credits PLEASE go and play it again. Every Mario game I can think of was rubbish if you just hammer it trying to get to the end - its all about enjoying all the intricacies and not necessarily getting very far very quickly.

I have played it more and I have more than 60 stars. My point still stands that it is far to easy and way to quick to finish. I dont ever remember Mario 64 and Sunshine being like it.

More than 60 could be 61... that doesn't tell us anything. Anything up to about 80 stars is straight forward... after that things get a bit trickier and to get 120 it is pretty damn hard.
Ok, i am not the best at platformers so you might find it easier than me, however, declaring it "far too easy" without actually finishing the game is ridiculous.

Anyway, sorry to the OP for the derail.
Just go get Mario Galaxy. Like i said, console game of the year!

I have finished the game though, you dont require every star. It was easy and as a result I dont see how this can be game of the year.

You can beat the final boss on Super Mario 4 (SNES) within about 20 minutes, yet the game still has 15-20 hours gameplay left in it.

Just because you saw the final credits on a Mario game, it really doesn't mean that you've completed it and you've certainly not got the best out of it.

Right, and because people can complete Quake in 12 minutes flat, that was a rubbish game too.

Even on a more realistic note, Portal can be finished in 5 hours or less. It's obviously crap.

Considering that every star you get is a quest itself means you need all stars to truly complete the game. The best way to enjoy the experience is to get all the stars as far as you can on 1 stage then move on.

but from all the recommendations people are making (and im sad enough to keep it for christmas) its well worth the buy. unelss you are sad like most of my work chums and only play games that contain HOT CHIX!
