Streaming media to an Xbox 360

With the recent Xbox 360 update, I thought I'd give streaming media from my PC to my Xbox a go.

My PC is running Windows XP MCE Roll-up 2 and is connected to my router via a wired connection. My Xbox 360 is using a wireless connection to the router. My router is a Netgear DG834G and is the standard wireless ADSL modem/router given out by a lot of ISPs, including Eclipse and Sky.

I've tried connecting the two using Windows Media Player 11, the Zune software and Windows Media Centre. In all cases, the Xbox 360 can't be found and the Xbox 360 can't find my PC.

I've looked in the options for the router and uPnP seems to be enabled. I haven't got a firewall running on the PC and I've even tried uninstalling the PC's anti-virus software without any success.

Does anyone have this router and has had success streaming media to their Xbox? Any tips you could give me?

i think they both need to be on the same network. so both wired or both wireless.

i had your problem but when i switched my pc back to wireless they recognised each other.

Firewalls can be a pain in the arse where media sharing is attempted. I have fiddled about with all aspects of this, this weekend and I can safely say it works better with the firewall off (so does the Sasser virus but that's another matter all together)

My 360-PC connection worked fine on and off wireless (however I was using a wireless bridge)

It shouldn't be a problem if one is wired and the other is wireless. My mate runs Vista on a laptop connected wirelessly and I stream music from that quite happily. I've had nothing but problems trying to get XP streaming through anything though, WMP 11 didn't work for me. I could kind of get TVersity working, but its very temperamental.

there is some incredibly obscure setting for setting this up in some circumstances, took me months to fix mine

and i've had to do it on a few PCs in order to share music

basically, COmputer Management -> Services... and then... 2 of them need to be started... i can't remember which though

I've got my Xbox wired straight to my router and streaming from my PC via wifi, so thats not a problem.

I use iTunes normally, so I can definitely live without WMP 11. :)

Another suggestion I found was to disable port forwarding. Apparently the Netgear router has problems when both uPnP and port forwarding are enabled.

used to use TVersity with not too many issues
switched to WMP11 after the update, no problems so far

which firewall are you using, try disabling it and see if the 360 can then be seen
