The games that started off PC gaming for you?

Th first PC game I got was Wing Commander, I recall spending in the region of 2 grand on a 4mb 20 Mhz 386 with a whopping 30mb hdd, 14" colour monitor and another £100+ on a Soundblaster.

I suspect that at todays prices, that would have been the equivalent of 5k on kit?

I can't remember to be honest. I know the first Online game I played with other real people was Diablo II on the PC. As for first PC games I was a console gamer up until 16 or so (I am 25 now).

Didn't game to much on the PC up until Diablo II and then World of Warcraft back when that was out. and the occasional console game such as Tekken, Street Fighter, Gran Turismo etc.

Ohhhhh I just remembered what PC game I was first really hooked on. The original Unreal Tournament game back in 99. DAAAAAAMN!!! PC games consisted of C&C games, UT series and the occasional ODD game.

i remember saving my pocket money for months to get a graphics card to go from 16 to 256 colours

jesus geoffrey christ, it was sensory overload

MOHAA.. bought it Blockbuster for £35.. athough coulda been Ghost Recon.. I cant believe I used to play it online with a 56K connection!

Never really played games but my brother did. He told me about a game he really wanted, so I got it for him, installed it, got it working for him (he hasn't a clue about hardware, or software for matter - he's a console kid normally). I fired it up to have a look before letting him play.

The game was half-life, and that first train-ride at the start was unforgettable - this wasn't like Pac-Man at all. The first time I was crawling through a vent and a headcrab leapt out at me, I actually jumped. I couldn't stop playing. Eventually, at We've Got Hostiles, I let my brother have a go just so he could experience the sheer joy.

That was over ten years ago, and I've never looked back.

"you walk into a room with a dog. it is guarding a door" - PC game TXT
'Give dog food' - My entered command
"the dog eats the food and goes to sleep away from the door"
'walk through door'
"you walk into a garden. there is a spade on the ground. a gate leads off to the left"
'Pick up spade'
'Walk through door'

etc. etc.

I cant for the life of me remember the name of the game..i had to load of from old 5.25" floppy disks

Dragon 32 - Manic Miner (glad to see I'm not the only one who had one of these)

Amiga 1200 - Settlers, UFO & SWOS too many hours invested in those games. They could still show some of todays game what gameplay is meant to be like.

PC - Halflife/TFC (late into PC gaming)

If we're talking PC gaming it was Doom I think alothough the first game I bought for my Pc was Krush Kill n destroy

If we're talking computer games in general it was a game called "Booty" on the speccy 48K :)

Total anihilation ! i still have it now, a true legend, it goes for as much as 50pound on the bay these days, its like a antique! and the mods are never ending these days for it, and full conversion mods are a slittle as 40mb ! its the REAL supreme commander! supreme commander did a poor job of trying to copy and make it better, as it failed ....by a huge amount, had total anihilation for 8,9 or 10 years now, if no one has played it its definatly worth a try!!(if you can find it) with the 2 add ons it makes it a legend and has 10X more units/buildings than supreme commander, and in my opinion thats why supreme coimmander failed :( if you see all the award TA won you will see what i mean by a true legend!
