Top paid jobs in the uk

16th

IT Strategy and Planning Professionals. This is the closest thing to what I do but not exxact. It's not really representative though.

I know a plasterer who makes three times what they list....

31st/32nd but I'm on pretty much what they quote and I'm not fully qualified yet  and I'd expect to get more like twice what they state eventually.

[edit] Read it properly this time... Make that 12th :D with aspirations on 4th

Software Pro - 50th.

Just shows the effect immigration has had on that particular profession. There was a time we were a lot higher.

Ditto, well will be when I graduate next year, 'only' starting on 24k though :( :p

Can't really blame immigrants entirely though, at the place I'll be working there are ~50 people, of which 4 aren't english, it's more down to just the vast increase in people doing computer science type degree's I think...

Wow, OcUK willy waving has reached new heights ;)

I'm 182 BTW, although that's average and my wage is normally higher depending on my shift patterns and overtime.

Why do you suspect immigration for this? I'd have thought it has more to do with outsourcing to other countries.

True but a lot of Indian IT professionals still come over here to work as well - believe it or not, but it's quite hard to run an IT service from India where none of the developers actually know what their customers are talking about ;)

Often when Indian IT people come to the UK on a long-term project the company will hire then a 1 bed/studio flat for them and expect them to work on Indian IT wages (~£12k I think). Funnily enough when they find out how bad they are getting screwed they leave fairly sharp-ish, and as they already have a visa, they get another job easily. After 5 years they can become British citizens or something I think?

This annoys me a lot more than offshoring, because I don't think there's anything that can be done to stop that, however the government should be doing more to protect its citizens from this sort of exploitation of immigration.

edit/ never mind, can't read!

They have the Engineering disciplines, but surely they vary a lot more as to Chartered status?
