I was paying 700 a month between two of us for a 2 bed flat in kent thameside and I have now been in my key worker flat now for 3 months and its great. I'm paying 360 a month for all bills and the flat i'm in is brand new :) its like paying uni prices again. Stupid thing is theres loads of these flats just sittng here empty as they don't advertise this flats, 381 a month for a 2 bed flat including service charge is stupidly low! If your in and around london you should look out for these!

Police Officers as well, right? Last Summer my mate was working in London, living in Watford right next to the station. He was paying in excess of £1k or something for his particular apt. but then there were some smaller cheaper ones for key workers at a fraction of the price. In all fairness, I think it's a good idea considering how low their pay can be for the job they actually do.

Yep. If anyone can turn up and rent one, something's the matter surely...

How do we know the OP isn't?

Is this renting? or one of those schemes where the government buy part of your property to reduce the price for you?

We don't, I was waiting to find out :)

I assume he is, because as far as I know you do have to be a key worker to get one, but the tone of his post made it sound like it was just a little-known way of getting a cheap flat, I'm curious

Ahhhh, true.

its pure rent, not part buy part rent, i'm on 23k and my house m8 is on 20k so its fairly easy going, the flats i'm in couldn't find key workers, so anyone over 12k a year could have one.. but no one advertising... so some were empty for ages.
