What's the best Street Fighter game?

What's the best Street Fighter on PS1/PS2/PS3 ? It can be either pure Street Fighter, or a mix, like Capcom Vs SNK. As long as it has Street Fighter in it. I've been wanting to get involved in it again after seeing and hearing about Street Fighter 2 HD remake and Street Fighter 4. But there's just so many that I don't know where to start.

So what's the best Street Fighter out there? I am only after Playstation iterations as their pads are just fine for me, and I don't really like the Gamecube/Xbox ones (not the most suitable for 2d fighters). Don't want an arcade pad either, so rule that one out.
 
The thing with the Street Fighters is, although they all have the same characters and moves, they are all very different.

If you want to get into SF2 HD Remix then I'd play SF2 Turbo (I'm pretty sure you can get this as part of a SF collection on the PSOne)

And if your more interested in SF4, I'd go for SF III Third Strike, as I'm guessing that will be the closest to SF4 out of anything currently available.

Personally though, I like the Alpha's, especially 2 and 3, you can get these as part of the Alpha Anthology on the PS2.
 
Nice, thanks guys. I see there's an Alpha Anthology as well as Third Strike both available for PS2. Those work just fine on the PS3?

You can't go wrong with Street Fighter Alpha Anthology if you liked the Alpha series (it is alpha warriors dreams, alpha 2, alpha 2 gold and alpha 3 all in one).

Bought it recently myself and it doesn't look great on the screen (with or without upscaler) but it's all about the gameplay.

Street Fighter Anniversary Collection from PS2 is next on my list (has SF3 third strike on it as well).

(I'm not a big fan of the vs titles though tbh)

Street Fighter II : Hyper Fighting (SNES)(VC) if you want retro goodness
Street Fighter Alpha 3 (PSP) for up to date SF
 
Loved street figher vs xmen on the arcade... came out on Saturn and i think the closest on the ps1 was street figher vs capcom or something similar.

Ah, memories!
 
Super Street Fighter II Turbo is probably about my fave, closely followed by Street Fighter Alpha II.

The best Street Fighter experience on any console, though, is X-Men vs. Street Fighter on the Saturn. Absolutely superb.
 
Looks like a lot of people are into sf2. Hope you are already to be whooped when the HD version comes out (And I hope I am as good as my feeble memory thinks I am... ;) )

Super Street Fighter II Turbo on the SNES, the one and only! Ahhhhhhhhhhh...back in 1993 or summat when i was like 7.
 
i personally loved marvel vs. capcom 2 but its probs one of the more abstract street fighter games :)

Rival schools rocked!!! I remember I used to be the guy with the baseball bat and batter Sakura!!

All this brings back many many happy PS1 memories. Surely that was the console with the best library of beat em ups, period.

Two best for me:

Street Fighter Alpha 3
Street Fighter 3: Third Strike

So just get Street Fighter Alpha Anthology and Street Fighter Anniversary Collection and you're all set :)
